I have a 2012 tundra crewmax and I use a trailer toad to pull my travel trailer. The trailer is 6000lbs loaded with a 650 lb tongue weight. I’m within all my ratings towing, which I have checked on cat scales fully loaded with family. Where I wanted more payload is I also
Have a cricket mini golf cart i take with me now. So I needed to move the tongue weight off to stay within all my legal limits. Now my payload is still under 7200lbs and my gross vehicle is under 14000. It tows amazing with no sway and there’s no jarring in the truck because the toad has its own suspension. Backing is very easy as well. I picked mine up used but like brand new for $1700. I have been around cars, trucks and heavy equipment my whole life. The toad is a very well made piece. Any questions just ask. Happy to answer.

Awesome info. It's good to hear from somebody that has actually used one.

Can you post pics of the set up?

That's awesome! This looks like a great solution for Tundra lovers who want a little heavier tongue weight.

I have owned all different trucks gas and diesel. My tundra is my favorite and cost the least to maintain. I didn’t want to give it up without trying all options. This seem to do it and still stay very legal.

Oh for sure. This just shores up the weak payload rating. I still wouldn't tow anything large.

My personal needs and goals have changed since I started this thread, but the toad is still a tool people should know about.

Does this eliminate the need for a WDH? Can you leave it connected to the RV in storage and just connect the toad to the truck when you want to tow?

You need a weight distribution hitch from the toad to the trailer but you don’t need sway control. It’s easier to disconnect the toad from the trailer then the truck. You can do it the other way but then your trying to line up the shank of the toad to the reciever and that not the easiest.

I would think it would be easier to back the truck up to the hitch on the toad than to back the toad up to the hitch on the trailer.

If I understand correctly, the toad to trailer connect will be identical to the truck to trailer connect without the toad. Truck to toad is probably easy when the toad is not hooked to the trailer, but difficult if it is connected to the trailer. You need to perfectly align the toad shank to the trucks receiver hitch vertically and horizontally.

For practical purposes you'll need to probably disconnect both after getting to your campsite to use the truck independently. Unless you want to haul the toad around.

correct and it takes me 5 minutes to disconnect toad. Then I use a cable to lock it to the tongue of the trailer. Then you ha e your truck.

Are you using the stabilizer bar they reference on their website?

If you are willing and able I’d love to see more photos of how you are setup. This looks like the solution I need to tow my trailer as I am currently at the truck payload limits. Does not make sense to get a HD truck for the driving I do when not towing.
