I've got an older utility trailer I was able to fix up just with some new tires, and built some sides to it. I don't have a lot of money in it, but I'm looking to see if there are any good trailer locks for it while towing? This trailer was homemade back in the 80's, and the coupler that was used and welded on doesn't have a way I can lock it with a normal lock.

Most of what I will be using it for will be hauling to the dump and other properties, but if I have to go pick something up from the store, I'd like to have peace of mind while I'm inside that someone can't just unlatch it and take off.

I use an aircraft cable with loops on both ends and big padlocks and lock it from the truck frame to the trailer frame and dare anyone to try to part the two!

If it’s not a normal coupler that can take a coupler pin lock, what about a ball lock?

I was looking for something similar to this, but something that I can use while pulling it.

I'd put a padlock on the safety chain. It's not perfect, but it will at least require that the crook has tools.

if not then padlock with a good lock to the chains like tvpierce said.

Here is my coupler. I guess i could drill down right behind the little clip that keeps it locked and put some type of big lock through it or a locking hitch pen.

Or just cut/grind that coupler off, drill a couple of holes, and for $15 put one of these on there.
