You can have the employees at U-haul level the exact trailer you will be renting, measure for the ground to the top of the coupler. Then measure from the ground up on the back of your truck to see what kind of drop you might need.

Another way around this is just buy an adjustable hitch.

Depending on the weight of the trailer you are going to rent, consider a bit of truck back end squat when measuring your truck's ball height. But not very much likely, just an inch maybe.

Are most of you going with a 4" drop for general all around use?

    Yea, about that.

I have the drop maxed out to 4" on the two hitches I have used. I do have the rear air suspension adjusters set to maximum height on the truck though.

That one is very nice. Just more expense that I would like . I do not tow often.
This is really just a one and done tow for moving my daughter to college .
Towing the smallest 4'x8' cargo trailer from U-Haul.

How far are you towing AutinTexas? If it's only like 100 miles or less, I'd suggest getting the ball height from Uhaul, measure your truck, then find something on Amazon or your local farm supply store and call it done. If the trailer leans a bit I've found that's fine for shorter trips. ps: if you're not a frequent tow-er, then driving a bit slower than normal is a good idea too, which lessens the impact of a somewhat tilting trailer. Safety first :)

    Do these measurement look correct?
    Should I get a 4" or 2" drop

I measured my receiver tube on my 2022 Tundra at 20"
U-Haul is listing a trailer coupler height of 18"
So it looks like I will need to get a 2" drop for the trailer hitch
( or should it be a 4" drop so the center of the ball is at a 2" drop)

Or I guess I can stop being a cheap ass and just buy the adjustable.

You're not going to have much difference on a 2" vs 4" drop. Biggest thing you need to pay attention to with that U-Haul trailer is how you distribute the weight inside the trailer.

I bought this. I have a 2023 SR5 TRD Off Road Double Cab with 6.5' bed. It tows my Proline 14' double axel snowmobile trailer level, with two sleds in it. It came with a dog bone lock. Bought it at Tractor Supply. IMG_20221129_172020995.jpg IMG_20221129_172032701_HDR.jpg

    Lots of stuff!
I have 2 Weigh-safe hitches. They both have a 6" shank that can be flipped so you get a huge range of heights. One is a WDH and the other is standard hitch. My truck picture has the Airstream attached and WDH is active. It sits very level. If I put bigger tires on or a lift, I can just slide the hitch up or down on the shank to suit the trailer.

    What’s wrong with stock?
I use a Curt 45142 to take boat to ramp since salt water and weigh safe don’t mix. I like that the ball is welded on since I have had a few stolen.

Here are a few considerations for selecting a trailer hitch and ball for your 2022 Toyota Tundra to haul a small U-Haul trailer: geometry dash

    - For a light utility trailer from U-Haul, a class III hitch with a 2" receiver size should be sufficient. This provides up to 5,000 lbs towing capacity.

    - Make sure to get a complete kit with all necessary mounting hardware tailored specifically to the 2022 Tundra. Custom mounting points vary by vehicle.

    - Most small U-Haul trailers use a standard 2" ball size. Choose a ball with appropriate weight rating for the trailer. Steel or chrome balls are common options.

    - Measure from the center of your Tundra's rear bumper down to the ground. Select a drop/rise hitch that positions the ball height to match the trailer coupler height.

    - A drop of 6-8" is typical for a level towing stance, but double check with U-Haul on the exact trailer height when unloaded. Too much drop can over-tilt the trailer.

    - Adjustable ball mounts allow tweaking drop/rise height as needed. Static drop hitches are fixed.

    - Add accessories like trailer wiring harness, hitch pins, locks, stabilizers to complete setup.

Consulting with a knowledgeable hitch installer and measuring precisely will ensure you get the right gear for a safe, level tow. Let me know if you need any other specifics on selecting the proper hitch components.
