Maybe you're right, I would have loved to have that cab this morning when I went over that yellow jacket nest...

    So it’s time.

After I get unburied from snow, I will be looking at tractors.

I have a fair share of landscaping to do that will require a bit of earth moving.

Cab would be nice, but not a requirement. I was shoveling in the snow for 2 hours last night (10-12).

And I found this little gem. Yanmar 336D. From the reading I have done, solid tractors.

I still struggle with Teir 4 emissions, and what that means for the future.

I do not own a tractor but from people I know who do, I'd go for one that you can add a hoe to the back. I think the hoe will get more use than a bucket/loader. A good friend of mine has gone thru a few units and ultimately settled on a mini excavator with a blade up front and says he likes this unit the best

Last night was not even a bad storm. Wind was down, wet snow, and the drifts were not as bad.

Look at an older Case M they run forever and use to be had for a couple thousand. Get a bucket and you are good. Price was a few years ago so since people have started wanting them the price has probably jumped on up there. Good luck?

I have a JD 4100 with loader but the attachment I use the most is the forks, it's amazing how many uses I find for them. I have a small property so a 21 hp is plenty but you'll be wanting something larger. Once you get a tractor you'll wonder how you ever got by without it!

I graduated from Franklin county Technical school's Landscaping program and we had John deeres, an 870, two 3520s, and a 4610. the 870 was the smallest, oldest, and only manual shift (which also made it the most fun to drive), but that tractor was at the school well before I was born and it had over 7000 hours of run time and had been driven by teenagers who never maintained it and it still runs strong. The 3520s were good tractors too but notably more boring, though one had a cab with a radio and A/C which was awesome when it was 90 out. The 4610 had a backhoe but it was under powered and had a hard time digging some stumps out. If I had the money and the means I would go one or two sizes up over the 4610 with a backhoe.

I bought a Kubota L3400 about 5 years ago. I love it. We have 80 acres, mostly wooded. I use it for clearing the drive, working on the roads, hauling firewood, digging post holes, moving rocks, etc, etc. I have about 6 attachments that get used regularly. My neighbor has a backhoe, so I have never needed to get that.

I’m honestly not sure Bryan. Hell, some of these small tractors can be north of 35k.

What do you have on for your land?

Yeah a tractor isn't cheap but what is. I don't know what I would do without a tractor and loader.

I just don’t want to make the mistake of going to small. One of my friends did just that.

Anyone have comments on the Kioti brand tractors?

Just under two here and over 5 in the mountains.

We need a lift capacity at the pin of 1100lbs at least. This eliminates most small compact tractors.

Another consideration is the terrain we will be using it on, if that helps any.

I'm on 20 acres, and also maintain a mile-long crushed-limestone road. I've had a Mahindra 4110, 41HP 4wd tractor for the past 17 years. Wouldn't trade it for love nor money. Front loader, box and grader blades, and a shredder (brush-hog). It's invaluable in my situation. There are a few more implements that I could put to good use.

I have a 750' driveway so a box blade is a must. The attachments add up quickly. I have a loader, box blade, mower, full hydraulic tilt snow plow, tiller.

I have nothing to contribute, but it's awesome reading about tractors. I spent a lot of time as a kid on a country "farm" (cattle, Xmas trees, large gardens but not crops, small vineyard) and I hope to someday have some property with a tractor. Good times!

    Good luck Chris!
