So if I buy a Autel sensor and put it in the spare then turn it to a 5 tire setup and add the ID for the new sensor does it just automatically start reading the sensor? Or would I need one of those tpms scan tools too?

You need Techstream to have the truck be able to accept a 5th sensor. Techstream can also program with the right cable or get a tire programmer (Launch, Autel or possibly Carista).

yea I have tech stream. Been using it for my last 4 or 5 Toyotas but I have never messed with the tpms systems. From what I read so far it looks like I have to activate the new sensor with the maxitpms tool and record the ID number, then go in tech stream and change it to have 5 sensors then input the new sensor ID, or possibly have to input the new sensor along with input my current sensors. Does that sound about right to you?

Does this look like the correct sensor ID codes? They seem odd since they all start with ACE

Yea, those look right. The 5th OEM sensor I purchased had a 7-digit ID code that also happened to start with the letter “A.”

Yea, black rubber valve stem. Perfect match to the other four that came with my Limited TRD Off Road wheels.

I found an OEM sensor brand new for $45. From what I read after I install it I just need to inflate and deflate the spare a couple times to activate it then just input all the sensors IDs with tech stream and it should work.

I'm not sure whether you need to input any sensor IDs. I recently purchased a new set of wheels/tires and had TPMSs added before they were shipped to me. I put the new wheels on and did a TPMS relearn. The truck recognized the new tires on the first try. No sensor inputs needed.

Did you do 5 new wheels or 4?
    And what's the relearn procedure?

I'm only synced up to 4 right now...will be getting the 5th added next time I go to my dealership.

    Relearn procedure:

-Turn the truck on, drive a couple miles so that the tpms's are activated.
-On the dash menu, navigate to settings>vehicle settings>TPWS>relearn
-Start driving once the tire pressure light is blinking. My truck took 10-15 mins for the tire pressure light to go away. All four tires are recognized and show correct pressure.

What's probably more difficult is to get the 5th wheel to register. The tpms on each wheel only gets activated once the wheels have been turning for a little while. So, carrying a static wheel in the spare location isn't going to turn it on. I'm guessing you'd basically either have to sync up the original 4 wheels, then the swap one active wheel for the spare and relearn again, or, manually program all 5 at one time.

I want to get my 5th wheel position added, but I also don't really understand how the spare is going to register each time I turn the truck on. From what I understand the spare tpms will "go to sleep" until it's rotated back into the active group. Maybe I'm wrong?

I saw an option in tech stream to add tire sensors. I’ll let you know how it works after I get my 5th sensor

I have a TPMS in my spare and have not rotated tires yet (getting close) and the pressure of the spare shows on the dash when I go to the screen. Never had it sleep on me and never come back

Interesting...thx for the info! Did you have all 5 programmed or did the truck pick them all up on its own?

Initially I had to program them in but I was not able to do that with Techstream but @Jeff_5_7 remoted into my truck and he set it up. Since then I heard Techstream can do what I wanted (later version I assume) and what Jeff did blocked out my speedo calibrator. Really sucks but until I fin dout which version if Techstream I can use to change it myself I am freaking stuck

Boom! Easy as 1 2 3… I’ll post some screenshots later on how to do it with tech stream…going to get it balanced now. Hopefully it will be showing the PSI by the time I get back..

I had the dealership activate my 5th sensor spot this week when I went to pickup my 2nd key.

I didn’t have the full sized spare with me. Strangely it took them nearly 2 hours to get the truck finished. When I got home I mounted the 5th wheel and started the relearn process again. The sensors took much longer to learn this time. Four wheels took about 20 mins. Adding the 5th took about an hour and 15 of total drove time over two days. The truck continues the relearn even if you turn it off overnight.

Happy to say that of this morning all 5 are displaying on the dash.

This is one of my favorite mods. I used to hate having to lower the spare to check the pressure on my 16. I got tired of it so flipped it over so the stem was facing down. It was always on my mind though that if a rock or something could possibly hit the stem and leave me with a flat spare.its also harder to get the tire out when it’s flipped around too.

Nice to see Techstream for the 2022 has the option built in. I have heard the older 4 runners support the same feature in Techstream as well. I’m not sure if you can connect to Techstream and just force it to think it’s a 4 runner instead of a Tundra and see if the function is now available in the TPMS ecu.

I did Tony’s in the “background” but used the same method Techstream does. Unfortunately for Tony and I his RC speedometer calibrator quit recognizing the speed signal on the network right after. RC was no help over the phone and it seems they have programmed the unit to see any changes in the network and shut down. The TPMS mod adds one extra data byte to the network for the PSI value in the 5th tire. It’s a legit Toyota modification but somehow RC programming decides its aftermarket and they don’t support it.

I believe Tony and I are going to program his back to 4 tires to see if the RC unit starts working again. Would be nice if we have the ability to reflash the tire size in the ABS ecu (the proper way to correct speedo for larger tires) then we could throw the RC unit in the trash.

By the way when I say RC I really mean Hypertech. The Rough County unit is the exact same as the Hypertech just repackaged. Hypertech wrote all the code for them.
