I've only had mine on a few days, and I'd say the ride quality is decent to good given the shape of most roads out here. At worst its equal to my stock coilovers, and I wouldn't say that the 700 lb springs make them harsh, to me they just feel more controlled.

 

I do feel connected to the road and in control, but I also feel that the ride could be a lot smoother. My 14-month-old daughter goes "aahhhhhhh" when we get in the truck and start down the road because the truck is bumpy enough that it translates to "ah ah ya ya ya ya ya ya ya."

I honestly want to compare to another Tundra with this kit installed to see if I'm just crazy or if they're all like this.

 

This is ironic because I’ve had mine on for about 10,000 miles and I was just thinking yesterday that I’m pretty happy with my ride quality. And i went with the 700 lbs coilovers.

When I first put them on, I’ll be honest and say I was pretty unhappy. They’ve since broken in quite a bit

 

I've tried from 33 PSI up to 45 PSI. It's definitely not my tire pressure.

 

As I said, maybe they are performing exactly the way they are supposed to and it's what you would all consider a "smooth ride." Perhaps my expectations are what's out of whack here.

To add to this, it's like what BlueBottle said.. At slower speeds they are VERY stiff. At freeway speeds they feel much better. The problem with this is that when you are on a desert road with a rough surface you are typically moving pretty slow and you feel an exaggerated version of EVERYTHING. Even just going over speed bumps in parking lots it's apparent that the coilovers aren't compressing much at all. They feel fine on the freeway but for me the selling point was that they were just as good offroad as they are on the highway - this has not been my experience. I also ran them for quite awhile in hopes that they would smooth out a bit but that hasn't been my experience.

My measurement from center hub to top of fender is 24.5" on both front corners, so I'm not even set to a full 3" lift with them based on what CSUViper is saying would be a full 3".

That all being said I do feel very much in control and connected to the road even over rough terrain. I think from a performance standpoint these coilovers are fantastic, I'm just not sure if my expectations for ride comfort are reasonable or not.

 

I agree w the speedbump opinion you stated here. I’m thinking the ride might get better at around 2” of lift which is what this is shipped out as. We are cranking them up prettt good which may be stiffening the ride. I think @HBdirtbag kept his at factory height.

 

Yea. I’m at 3” up front with a 1” shackle in the rear.

 

I guess I only have the 6112’s to compare to but those were stiffer over speed bumps, driveway dips, etc.


I will still say. I had to crank the driver side much more then the passenger.

 

Oh wow that’s a lot!!! I think I have my driver cranked 1/4” more than the passenger.

 

I’m at 3.5” and i can’t complain about my ride...

 

You guys might be expecting to much, or flat out running something wrong for your needs. From the sounds of it, Icon might be better for you. Regardless, when you eliminate the rubber bushing connection at both the top and bottom of your coilovers, run a 700lb spring with additional pre-load, on a shock made to perform off road... Just being honest.

Backslider, if you have changed ride heights, make sure your upper and lower control arm bushings are zeroed at ride height, too often if a cam is good it won’t get loosened during alignment, and nobody does their uppers. It can make a huge difference in the slow speed manners you describe.

Is your driver side coilover on backwards?

 

This is why I need to stop being lazy and install shit myself. But you appear to be absolutely Right.

I took it to a local 4wd shop that I had heard nothing but good things about. He had a new guy in thay originally put the uca’s on upside down when I went to pick it up. Doh. Luckily I caught it right away.

 

Can be backwards? I thought it was symmetrical.... eeek gotta check mine now.

 

I didn’t think about it until my buddy noticed. Thank God he did.

 

So which way is the correct way? @ToyTec Lifts didn’t include any instructions....

 

To confirm. Flat side of the top hat should be facing rear of vehicle?

Flat side facing the back I believe. Yours look on correct. I didn’t even think about that being a possibility. But would explain a bit.

Unless someone comes in and tells us it doesn’t matter @ToyTec Lifts

 

Usually the nitrogen fill port is facing out, some people check/adjust it. It looks like you would have to spin your top hat 180 degrees to do that.

@Vizsla is correct, nitrogen port should be out on both sides to insure proper fitment an proper alignment.

What would the difference between this set and Icon be?

Admittedly I'm far from a suspension expert, but everyone here is always talking about how great these coilovers are on and off road.. I based my decision on the overwhelmingly positive reviews from members on these forums.

What would Icons offer that these do not? What is the intended use for the Toytec 2.5 Radflo set? My assumption wad that it would be a great all around shock. The Toytec website says simply "great performance on and off road."

I ask this not to be a curmudgeon, but rather to gain a real understanding of where my expectations and what these shocks provide don't meet.

Thank you for the advice on the alignment and zeroing the upper and lower control arm bushings. My former coilover were set to 3" so the ride height has come down about 1/2 an inch with these. My alignment is in spec but this very well may have been overlooked.

 

I’d also like to get a ride In an Icon equipped tundra. I had icon back when I had my first gen taco and from what I remembered it was smoother than the radflos on the slow speed stuff. When i was shopping it was between icons and these. Eventually want King but didn’t want to spend the coin at the time.

Probably not much, the lack of rubber bushings, and general intended use still exist.

I am not a suspension expert either, but most high end shocks have progressive valving(faster=better ride), but Icon, and Bilstein have digressive valving(slower=better ride), do not know what the Toytecs use. SDHQ is a great resource, call and talk to Joey, he can better articulate why Icon may or may not be better for you. Remember they are all aftermarket parts that sacrifice all bushings related to NVH, in pursuit of performance, it is a trade off.

I have basically the same shocks, but Fox. Bet you could not tell a difference between yours and mine, gotta romp on them to appreciate.

I don’t see any for the radflo’s. They have the boss but different suspension.
