Who has seen the specs for the new 2021 Dodge TRX? 702hp and 650lb-ft!! My question is can Toyota come anywhere near competing with this in the future?

I saw a thread on here a few days back about it. Toyota has it beat in dependability. That's all I really care about.

    Alot of them
All 702 that were made were all sold within a couple of hours. On that note, no way in hell I would pay $92K for a Dodge!

Toyota has no noticeable interest in getting into Ford and FCAs pissing contest.

It would be a terrible thing if they did, what would anyone do with that much power in something that just doesn't seem to break or leave you with a massive repair bill? It would almost make a reasonable argument with the wife when I would inevitably purchase it.

I wouldn't bet on it. The Raptor has been out for a decade now. Toyota doesn't seem tempted to take a bite out of that apple and honestly, I'm not either. I'm not paying 70 thousand dollars for a truck no matter who makes it. I think I share the sentiment of most Tundra owners when I say, my truck must start everyday. That's it. That's why I bought it. Dodge's have a terrible reliability record and I'm not sure adding a supercharger and doubling the price is going to make that any better

Anyone who buys a Fiat is screwed. Everyone buying their Ram trucks dirt cheap are finding out they are still upside down in them because they are shit and depreciate accordingly. Not sure why so many idiots buy Jeeps just to find out they are overpriced Fiats.

    Not nearly enough room here!
People will pay $50,000 for a vehicle and never once crack the Owner's Manual. It's hard for me to believe these same buyers, will make enough effort to actually research the vehicle they're after.

I had cross shopped the Ram 1500s when looking at Tundras. Until I saw that a year old Ram Rebel was around 35-40k with 15-20k miles. A loss of about $25k in the first year of ownership, nope.

People are always out for the latest and greatest, no way 99% of people would ever use that much HP/Torque but just as bragging rights. I love my paid off 2014 tundra and will actually drive it until it can’t go no more. Money in the bank is better than giving it away for unnecessary things. I don’t care for the dodge whatever it is.

Thanks - I was thinking about this earlier too. My first Tundra was a 2007 Limited. I had been driving it for about a year and I was getting some gas on a windy day at our local station. As I was getting out, the wind caught my door and slammed it into a concrete pole, putting a nice little crease in it. I was freaking out, I was so upset that I put a "ding" on my truck. I called my wife, expecting her to give me some shit. Her reply to me was "It's a truck. It's going to get dents and scrapes."
Fast forward to today and these $80k Raptors and $100k Dodges. Are they even considered trucks any more? I mean, I know they are shaped like a truck and stuff, but would you actually want to go to the lumber yard with one? Or move dirt with it? If I had put a crease in our $100k Dodge, I probably would have had a heart attack.
I guess if you have the money to buy a $100k truck you probably have the money to rent a real truck when you need one.
If I'm going to spend $100k on a vehicle... Scratch that. I would never spend $100k on a vehicle.

I wasn't so much referring to the price. Regardless of where you stand, you cannot deny for the sake of an American made vehicle that 702hp and 650lb-ft torque is impressive. I'm not saying it's practical. I stand in the realm that I bought a truck to be a truck. I look at muscle cars from time to time just because its impressive to see the power they have, doesn't mean I'm going to buy it but it is impressive. I'm not going to spend the money on it. But I can appreciate what they can do. If Toyota really wanted to compete they could design something based off of the Lexus LFA. I do like seeing what manufacturers are putting out in general and what they do to "compete" with one another. Just thought it would be neat to see what Toyota could do if they decided to appeal to that crowd.

I'm not trying to be facetious, but how much of a Dodge Ram is American-made? I honestly don't know.
I have no doubt that Toyota could knock it out of the park with anything they do but I'd rather them not knock it out of "my park" where I wouldn't be able to afford the truck I want because they've overloaded it with tech that I don't want.
I know the Tundra isn't the most popular truck in America but it is the most reliable and that trumps 702hp and 650lb-ft torque in my book.

I think Tundra Owners don’t care about unusable HP, torque or Baja bragging rights. We kinda, sorta...just go about our “boring” lives with our “outdated” trucks.

No regular Tundra even with a Harrop super charger is gonna beat the TRX, that hellcat engine is good for another 100-200 Hp with tuning.

    I could care less.

Plenty of Instagram muppets and you tube vloggers are gonna be wincing price wise at the new truck they have to get to keep their channel relevant for this advert tube dollars...

I bet during all the making of the TRX and Raptor Baja promotional videos while in the middle of the desert filming, they were using Tundra and Landcruiser crew vehicles carrying spare parts. Could even been the camera car :amen:

In no other vehicles does Toyota dabble in the hyper market. Look at how brutal the Supra sales numbers are, Toyota leaves that to other manufactures and sticks to their basic strategy. Simple TRD packages for their sedans and CUV’s, and mainly cosmetic Pro’s for their trucks and SUV’s. It is not part of their business model, and they simply don’t sell enough trucks to justify the R&D for a truck of such caliber. They would do it with a Tacoma, Camry, RAV4, or highlander WAY before they would with a Tundra.

I still am holding out hope for the new Tundra to blow the last generation away similar to what the Gen 1 did to the T-100, and what the Gen 2 did to the Gen 1. In particular I would love to see a Pro level type of suspension available from the factory with the Platinum trim.

I think it’s awesome they made the TRX. I hope it sells well for them. I would rather have that than a Raptor.

Toyota does a lot right when it comes to reliability. However, I think they lost their passion for automobiles, off road, and racing. Everything they do that supports the above is due to marketing demands. Toyota does the bare minimum because the HAVE to. FCA exceeds the standard because they WANT to. They still have passion.

Have been thinking about this lately, the TRX is certainly awesome, however I would rather mod a TRD off road Tundra with Pro aesthetics, Tesla headunit and a supercharger tbh.

About 80% the power of the TRX, 200% dependability and less than 2/3rds the cost.

Subjective stuff aside, the TRX is f’n neat. Too rich for my blood and the ram forums are a dumpster fire when it comes to reliability/build quality...but I like the “hellcat everything”mentality.

While they dont seem to be very good at it reliability wise(which is why i wont touch it).. the mechanical tech they put in is nice. Air ride, coils in the rear, top notch interior and now a damn monster with 35’s, great suspension and a ton of boost.

Toyota has been a flat out damn disappointment in the refreshify department. 2020’s are essentially the same damn thing as my 2007. Tundra’s are the slowest, get the worst mileage, are probably the heaviest and pretty much ride like shit.

Yota could take a bit of mindset from Ram and Ford in the mechanical technology department IMO.

I’m actually debating between Bronco or Trx. But trx is sold out, so I will have to wait anyway. My off-roading is now mountain trails, so the Bronco would be better, but I’m a dezert rat at heart so the TRX is more my style.

Naa...my old max has been so solid, I want to give toyota money but they wont let me.:D

I’ve said before if all yota did was slam in a ram’ish interior and a bulletproof 10 speed in the next gen, they’d take $60k from me
