So I think everybody here agrees (except B lol) Tundras rule!!!!!!!!! That’s why we bought them and that’s why we are on this site to show off our beauties and to discuss how bad ass our Tundras are. I certainly do appreciate my truck more now after doing some live comparisons to other brands and just having a ton of exp and visibility on the other brands.

The Tundra is the best looking 1/2 ton in my opinion. Every time I go over to Sean or Jose's house I about dry hump their trucks. 35's and a TT lift. I honestly really like the look on these trucks.

I'm just curious on what all this "extra" people get on other brands? There's only a couple things I can think of, and I would rate the SLT with a platinum Tundra (since 1794 is the highest trim level, and GMC is the Denali).

So off the top of my head in the interior:

-Stereo system is leap years ahead. Not a deal breaker for me though. Can the JBL hook up WIFI to the truck via AT&T or Verison?
-Auto up windows, again, not a deal breaker. In fact, usually annoying if I just want to roll my window up a bit, I usually hit it to hard and the window goes up all the way.
-Teen driver. Not sure I will allow my teen daughter drive my 50K+ truck. OK, I lied. She already drives my Jeep at 9 years old.
    -Heated steering wheel.
    -Wireless charging.
-GM crew cab has more room than the CM.

    Exterior:

    -Rear locking differential.
    -Power locking tailgate.

-Capless fueling. Not sure I would pay for this.
-Three bed configurations SB, regular box, long box in all cab configurations.

    Drive-train:
-GM offers 3 different rear axle gear ratios, unless you opt for the max tow package.

What the Tundra Platinum has that the GM products do not:

-Roll down back window in CM.
-38 gallon tank (GM is 26-34 gallons.
    -Pre-collision system
    -Radar controlled CC
    -2 more airbags
    -Blind spot monitoring.

    -Auto high beams
    -Moon roof

    Pricing:

So we have about 4000.00 in pricing difference. I went with the more expensive option of the 6.2L motor in the GM to make it fair since we were not quoting a 4.6L in a Tundra.

I'm not seeing a huge red flag here ladies and gents, and the Tundra platform is 12 years old, with some tech/capacity upgrades in 14' and 16'. For what I like, the Tundra has more interior options in this trim level/safety devices. The only thing the GM has over the Tundra is Locking rear diff and bed configurations with a crew cab in my opinion and what I need.

So not sure what people are taking about. I highlighted my big things the Tundra and GM need to improve or do well.

I didn't comment on motors and transmissions, nor fuel economy. Premium fuel sucks up any savings over the Tundra fuel mileage. Despite the GM having a bit more HP and TQ, Towing Vail Pass, the mighty LS2 didn't kick the 5.7L Tundra's ass by much...7 seconds to be exact. The GM did get 1.1 mpg better towing up that monster of a mountain pass. To give the Tundra a bump, the Pro was used as the tow rig, and in my opinion the platinum would have done better.

When one compares apples to apples, I really don't think there's a huge difference, and depending whom you ask, no difference. The cylinder deactivation would do it in for me on any other 1/2 ton, period. This is just what I have seen since 05' and newer GMs with this option and some of the failures.

So we should stop comparing a King Ranch Fords and Denali's with an SR5 plus package truck. You price an SR5 to an LT GM, I would be willing to bet the Toyota has more options and still in a great price point.

At the end of the day, someone doesn't like their Tundra, jump ship. I did and don't regret it one bit for what I do with my trucks. Do I miss the Tundra? Every day.

Does the GM really have more leg room then a CM? My seat of the pants test says the CM is larger in the rear, but I could be biased

You mention a very good point about the Tundra only being on the market for a short amount of time compared to the big 3. I don’t know how long the f-150, GM 1500 or Dodge 1500 have been around, but the fact Toyota has only had a 1/2 pick up on the market since 2000/2001 (can’t remember the year Tundra was first introduced,) and making solid a product that’s stealing market share is quite an accomplishment in my opinion.

During our drive up to Austin I saw a typical Ford issue. This time it was a 2018 Ford Expedition brand spanking new still had paper plates on it the people had the the hood and all doors open trying to figure out what was going on! Typical Ford, don’t see stuff like that on a Toyota!

yes so lets stick to the facts. we have all agreed to take looks off the table. the fact is our Tundras have less features, tow less, and under perform when put against the competition. to level the playing field, compare at top line trim levels, and MY 2018. 5.7, 5.0 and 6.2. we can leave out the F150 power stroke diesel now offered :)

TJs post is the first post in 6 pages, that is actually well thought out.

GM lags behind F150 in tech as well. but they both are still ahead of the tundra based on points above. All the things missing in the Chevy, are available in the F150, and then some (also mentioned in my OP). I know I'm coming across as dry humping the F150 and that is not my intention, im even getting a little sick of it myself. But they do set the high water mark.

Can the tundra tow more? nope.
Does the tundra have more HP? no
    optional gear packages? nuh uh.
    more features? definitely not.

dudes making me out to be a bad guy, have it bud. If someone has an awareness and OPEN MIND, you will realize what is out there in the world. it's not personal. this philosophy applies to more than cars. it is evident in this discussion.

i'll leave this here. I love the comments on the article they make me laugh. I dont take it personally because I know my truck will be driving me around while theirs may be in the shop.

Some of us just want a truck without a bunch of bells and whistles, how much have you towed lately? How much HP do you need? Who cares about gas mileage and last of all, it’s a truck, buy a car if you want one. I pile my truck full of camping gear, rods and reels go to the beach and camp, it rode it’s first deer last winter, hauled gravel, trash etc. Oh, gets to 115 mph pretty fast. What else do you need from a truck?

^ I absolutely agree the Tundra has plenty of HP and room. it gets the job done, and is truly a drama free vehicle. that alone is priceless. The bells and whistles are coming, products must evolve to survive. Or we'd all be using land lines and slide rules.

I dont tow anything with my truck, if i did i would have bought an F150... just kidding!

Does the 3rd gen Tundra trucks not have a separate control for the fog lamps?

I had the power outlet in the bed of my Tacoma. Couldn't use it driving, and wasn't that useful for anything else. My portable generator was more useful.

Why didn't you buy the SR5 then instead of a Limited? Leather I'm assuming?

The only thing I have seen my buddies F series trucks have over mine is air conditioned seats, Power telescoping side mirrors (can't get on the 1/2 ton anyway) and the trailer information screens is quite bad ass. I keep a log of my trailer miles for maintenance, but it is pretty cool to see them pull up those screens and tell me what mileage is on each trailer. I'm not sure if this is offered in 1/2 tons, due to everyone I tow with has 3/4 tons or bigger and another buddy of mine can't wait to get rid of his 16' F150 EB.

I honestly really enjoyed my Tundra, and if all my reasons for going to a larger truck were gone tomorrow, I would probably order a 19' Pro (if I had nothing to tow) or a Platinum or 1794. No more base model anything for this guy.

The Tundra being drama free is well said. I want to get in my truck and go. I guess it depends on needs, but if the 5.7 is leaving you wanting more as a tow vehicle, should you really even be in a 1/2 ton? Gas mileage? How many other 1/2s actually get their posted EPA averages? I once had a 2011 Silverado Z71 crew cab, 5.3, which was suppose to get 22 hwy, and I tried a 70 mile stretch of flat CA highway going 62 mph with CC on, and barely got 20.4 after a fresh fill up right next to the highway. Or how many pickups boast best in class MPG but then don’t have the torque to pull a light load over a small pass???

The fancy features on some of the domestic 1/2 tons is just too much for me, and it’s not like the Tundra layout is from the 90’s, it’s functional. I’ll take what the Tundra offers in the QDR field any day over all the fairy shit that comes with GM, Ford or Dodge and have to deal with the issues that have built their reputation of being less reliable than a Toyota.

The Tundra is built/assembled in San Antonio, TX, which is also plus for me.

Why is this thread still going? You are making a complete fool of yourself. There is no consensus to “take looks off the table”.
TJs post is the only “open minded” one why? Because he somewhat aligns to your view but can express it more intelligently?
I haven’t heard one person on here “dry humping” their truck.
I believe most on here are completely open minded and understand that while the Tundra lags in certain areas it also excels in others.
Furthermore, if you frequent Ford or GM forums you will most likely find the same affinity for the brand they have chosen.

Bro, you are on a TUNDRA forum.

Bro, you are on a TUNDRA forum.By the the way I happen to like the looks of my 07...A lot. My Tundra is turning more heads that any other 4X4 I've owned. My personal consensus...
