$3500 lift or stock.. either way just don't try to crank it left/right & power thru in 4wd. Otherwise you'll snap another one.. I'm afraid that youre assuming a much more expensive lift will fix the problem next time. The right way starts with you. Not the lift Alfredo!

I'd listen to some of the guys on here throwing another $3,500 to do it "the right way" is not the answer stop using 4x4 when it's not needed and boom problem solved

I'll be totally honest my Tundra will be my first 4x4 upon arrival and before reading about the 4 wheel drive system on here I was not of aware of any limitations such as what you encountered.

You may at least save some others from making the same error by posting this

Glad you have some resolution , this must be nightmare.

my 2008 TUN, valve spring broke and dealer charged me 1000.00 just to diagnose that and then it was 4000 more to fix it. I only used to go to dealers to buy vehicles and never every again and this proved it. someone on the street (TOY/LEX certified) fixed it all for 1400 and changed sparks included.

Another reason , dealers have good looking lookers , else they are money pits.

This is not a Tundra thing, it’s a part time 4WD thing. Any vehicle locked in 4WD that doesn’t have a center differential (not AWD) will bind when turning on pavement. It puts hundreds and even thousands of ft-lbs of torque into the axles and driveshafts. The heavier the vehicle, the more binding and back torque before the tires overcome static friction and unload a little.

You can use 4WD on pavement when traveling in a straight line, this is useful for situations like pulling a boat out of water up a launch ramp. Just make sure to disengage it once you need to maneuver the vehicle left or right. Otherwise, only use 4 hi and 4 low when on loose surface (dirt, gravel, snow, mud, etc.).

I thought the dealer had to prove that an aftermarket modification caused the failure to deny warranty coverage?

    A law, or some such...?

They do but they will likely just refuse knowing you have jump through 100 flaming hoops on a bent pogo stick to get any recourse.

The aftermarket modification in this case seems to me to be a red herring. Reversing at full lock on dry pavement in 4wd and not knowing how long Alfredo had been in 4wd on pavement (he may have turned it on when he pulled out of his driveway and headed to the campsite) is the issue.

Did the leveling kit contribute to the break in any way? Maybe, but that statement seems speculative in nature and is even made irrelevant (IMO) by the fact that the part time 4wd system was used improperly.

When you put it like that it sounds like they could point to any modified system and deny coverage.

Oh no, I'm sure no company with hundreds of lawyers on retainer would ever consider trying something like that to avoid having to pay for a repair...

There is also an owners manual in the dash or online that tells most everything someone would need to know about the 4wd system in the truck. It is written in a way that even someone who has never owned a 4x4 can understand it as well.

How did you not know it was in 4wd? Did you accidentally put engage 4x4 or did you put it in 4wd earlier and forget to take it out when you got to pavement? Does the 4HI light display on the instrument panel? Just curious, I have accidentally put mine in 4x4 before cleaning it, but noticed pretty quick when I cut it on.

You mean you expect people to not only read the owner's manual but also to look at the dash occasionally while driving?! Unreasonable!

Ill throw out some food for thought for you.

I would reccomend going with the OEM Toyota TRD Lift that has a full factory warranty, that way, you get a really good lift for starters and if there are any problems at all, you go to toyota and there is no problem with warranty work at all no matter what breaks

they are out now, you could probably even talk to your dealer and see if they would work with you on it in conjunction with the repair

$3500 to replace a front CV axle is ludicrous. These axles (CV axles in general) are $80-500 in the wild. Factory 2021 axle is $206. $3000 labor? Highway robbery.

I was like you before I came here. Now I know that directly after you are told "no" all you have to do is declare Magnussen-Moss.

Then they have to repair under warranty. It's a law.

I live in Canada anyways.. Ontario specifically, we have our own legislation to protect consumers. I was mostly just patronizing lol

And I laughed way to hard at this. Top ten scene for sure
