I don't agree that this is brand loyalty.
I'm pretty sure that this is simply an illustration of how mature and discerning typical Toyota buyers are. As soon as Toyota stops producing reliable quality vehicles we're going where they are being made.

Typical ford, chevy, and fiat buyers are "loyalists " that continue to buy junk no matter what.

Add me to the list. I had a 1983 Toyota 4X4 that had 358000 miles on it when my youngest son totaled it. Wife had a 2003 Toyota 4Runner and now drives a 2011 Lexus, my youngest son has a 2006 Tacoma. Now I have a Tundra. My father had brand loyalty to Buick, but, had lots of problems with them and tolerated lots of visits to the dealer.

Since 1999, there has been at least one Toyota in my garage, if not two (like currently).

My first car was a 69 Corolla sprinter, used. Drove it cross country twice. Crazy gas mileage with a pioneer super tuner stereo, cassette of course and surf board racks mounted on top...baby blue too
