So here's my thoughts. You knew about this a year before the recall. You used light meters, etc to verify light output. You knew it wasn't up to DOT standards, you replaced your bulbs with new bulbs on the suggestion of the dealership. Fair enough

But here's my issue, you say you verified this with light meters, it wasn't up to DOT standards, and you never posted a thread about it to bring it anyone's attention, raise awareness, see if it was a one off problem, contact toyota immediately (not years later), etc. Especially since it's not up to DOT standards. I woulda jumped on the opportunity to contact toyota corporate, make a thread on it with evidence, proceed to get that thread stickied once enough people also verify the issue, and raise as much awareness as possible.

Bitching about it now is kinda useless. You coulda made a thread years ago before you bought the LEDs and probably got some good feedback. We have plenty of knowledgeable people on this forum, engineers and electricians included.

In the end $175 bucks isn't the end of the world. You found a solution to your issue (which you kept to yourself, until now ) and your blinkers are working good now. Call it win and don't expect anything from toyota.

If OP can verify against DOT standards where was the Toyota QC while these units were rolling off the line??

OP says he discovered this in 2019. He has a 2018 according to his profile. One would have to look and see if the standards changed in that timeframe

Would they have issued a recall if they passed at time of production? I doubt it.

Maybe read the post more carefully next time. I did report it to Toyota. Who knows, maybe that helped spark an investigation. The service manager at the dealer hadn’t seen this on any other trucks, so yes a one off problem as far as I knew at the time. So why the hell would I post the problem here? I first found out that others had this problem too on this forum. By then, someone smarter than me and my dealer figured out the wiring issue. So you think I should post every problem I have and contact Toyota corporate? I have a cab mount that only squeaks when the temperature is between 40-50 degrees. Should I start a thread for that?

i think the point is that you shouldn’t go out and buy a 24k gold plated cab mount and expect Toyota to reimburse you in the future if it becomes a recall.

My Toyota's would have to give me a lot of grief before I said they suck. After owning GM, Ford, and a Jeep, I'm pretty happy with my 7 Toyotas.

That's not true! That's not true at all.

I said the transmissions would explode with the power of one thousand suns, the force of which would rend the fabric of space/time and bring about a new Big Bang, thereby renewing the cycle of our universe.

    THAT is what I said.

.... runny goo indeed. We should be so lucky.

You reported it to the service manager of a toyota dealership who probably could care less, not toyota corporate. For something that you supposedly tested and found wasn't up to DOT standards, I woulda brought it up to more peoples attention than just the service manager. A squeaky cab mount isn't a DOT issue and is irrelevant to this post, keep your post on topic

Pretty sure he did report it to Toyota corp., and that might have been why they actually looked into it. At least that is what I saw in his posts.

From what I read, he only passed the info to the service manager, who suggested he change the bulbs. Then he submitted a claim to Toyota Corp years later after he already changed his bulbs. Now he is upset that they haven't gotten back to him in 8 weeks and refunded the $175 he spent 2 years ago.

As for waiting to submit the claim, at the time of applying the band aid, OP might not have known about or maybe Toyota didn't have the dept. that owners can easily submit their claims to for reimbursment. I know many were shocked to hear of it in the LED headlight replacement thread and it is buried pretty deep on the website as well.

I put VLEDs in my truck 2 years ago because the signals were too dim. When I installed them, they didn't work, because of the wiring issue. A few minutes with a multimeter, and bending a wire from one side of the bulb connector to the other, they worked perfect. Toyota issued the recall shortly after and have been bugging me ever since to fix, even though I tell them I replaced them with aftermarket lights and not to touch them. Do I feel Toyota owes me anything? Absolutely not.

I think OP came posted this thread just out of pure frustration. Understood that. But unfortunately, this is the wrong crowd to complain about Toyota.

OP, you won't change majority of people's opinion on here, including mine. I think your best bet is to leave this thread to the graveyard and continue your fight with Toyota if you feel you should be reimbursed. If they don't reimburse, I won't be shocked. If they do reimburse, I'm happy for you that it got resolved!

You had no issue making a post about noisy blinkers, but you couldn’t be bothered to make a post about a safety issue?

Maybe take your own advice to stop complaining or get a different vehicle.
