Toyota Stalking, er...um, SPOTTING with Charlie™ (Hilux/Truck, and T-100 Edition)!

This photographic proof of how unkind Pennsylvania winters are to Toyota trucks; I saw 1992 Toyota 4x4 sitting by the side of the road with a For Sale sign shoved into the ground in front of it, so I stopped to take a look. The doors were unlocked (and amazingly enough, the key was in the ignition; that iconic Toyota door buzzer sounded when I opened the door, so that means the truck at least has electrical power, and despite its atrocious condition it probably fires right up)Unfortunately, this truck has the 3.slow as evidenced by the "V6" emblem on the grille...

Unfortunately, this truck has the 3.slow as evidenced by the "V6" emblem on the grille, but it has a low (for a 1992 Toyota) 132K miles! If this truck weren't rusted out and completely trashed, but still had this mileage, it would be suitable for a 3.4L swap!

 

For a 1992 regular cab, this truck is quite well equipped; A/C, tilt, intermittent wipers, and a cassette player!

 

You forgot to mention the custom upholstered door panel

 

But even with a 3.0L, I'll bet it still runs like a top; I'll bet the A/C is still R-12 and fully functional!

Unfortunately, every body panel is rotted, and the frame is shot too. If the cab isn't salvageable, the drivetrain is likely the only usable thing, and this truck is probably ready for the junkyard once those components have been yanked; I wouldn't be surprised if this truck is mechanically fully functional though, including the A/C (as stated above)! You can see major rot on the frame in this picture...

 

The left bed panel was by far the worst in terms of rot...

 

If this truck were to undergo a full restoration, the driver's door would most certainly have to be replaced...

 

Look closely and you will notice that this truck lacks inspection stickers and a license plate; New Jersey stopped doing safety inspections in like 2010, and doesn't require emissions testing for vehicles older than 1996, so it's entirely possible that this truck was recently brought over from Jersey (where the winters are just as harsh as PA, if not harsher in some areas). It is also likely that this truck has been in PA it's whole life, was relegated to farm truck/off-road use when it failed a safety inspection, and hasn't been on a public road in years. This thing could probably pass a smog test in California with flying colors if the emissions control system is intact, but ain't no way in hell it pass a PA safety inspection in this condition!

I had a cyst removed last week and am at the dermatologist to finally (HOPEFULLY!) get the damn stitches removed. I pulled I to the parking lot and immediately saw this beauty parked there! The owner happened to be in the waiting room and was happy to answer all of my questions about the truck, which is a fully loaded 1990 model that spent the first 12 years of its life in Tennessee. He bought it from the original owner in 2002 and has been modifying it ever since.
The engine was overhauled by the original owner prior to him buying it, which included new head gaskets. The original engine made it to 300K miles before he finally replaced it with a rebuilt (and bored out) 3.0L from a custom shop in California. The truck is a 5-speed stick, but I forgot to ask if the transmission is original.

As shown by the vanity license plate, the truck has straight axles, and it has 4.88 gears to get those big wheels moving.

The truck has A/C, cruise, tilt, power windows, and power locks. The owner told me that everything except the power antenna works. The truck has a CD player and new speakers, but nothing too crazy, according to the owner.

loved that era...I bought it for $250(and it had a $1000+ dollar lumber rack on it) and it ran great for 35,000 miles with not a penny invested other than fuel and oil...I did swap the seat out due to mold, I used the last one I sold's seat.

Pinner Era Toyotas are pretty amazing.
