I saw this 1988 Toyota pickup in a parking lot today. According to Carfax, it has been in Connecticut since 2018. I am guessing that the original bed rotted out or was damaged. Swaps of newer beds onto older domestic trucks seem fairly common based on what I've seen at car shows, so I'm thinking that's what the owner was doing. On another note, the color was noted as red in 2017, green in 2018, and blue in 2019...

Frame is okay for 1988 Toyota pickup that's spent it's entire life on the East Coast...

 

So, apparently pre-Tacoma pickups had the fuel filler door on the passenger side, which explains this setup...

I have seen a lot of crazy Toyota-based creations, including a 1929 Plymouth on a 1982 Toyota chassis and 1933 Ford pickup and on a 1985

Toyota 2WD pickup chassis. I've also seen a slammed 1994 T4R with a JDM Altezza 4-cylinder, a 1994 Isuzu pickup with a 1JZ engine, and a 1968 Chey C10 with a 2JZ! I've seen three 1978-1982 Hilux pickups with Chevy 350s under the hood, and a 1988ish Toyota pickup with a Lexus V8. All of these can be seen posted in my various threads. This, however, is one of the craziest swaps I've ever seen. The owner of this 1994 Toyota pickup installed a 1980s Mazda RX-7 rotary engine!

This 1995 T100 DX has been sitting outside this shop for a couple weeks now. It's not in the best condition, and the inspection sticker expires months ago, so I have a feeling there's something wrong with it that prevents it from being driven; I got the year by running the license plate through Carfax...

I believe that is about a 1984-1985, as it has a factory AM/FM cassette with analog tuning, rather than the digital tuners a lot of the newer 1980s Toyota trucks had; I vaguely remember that the 1987 Camry my uncle used as a beater had a dealer-installed shaft-style AM/FM cassette with analog tuning (it looked like a cheap CRAIG deck, but it said TOYOTA on it). The truck was unlocked, but I wasn't about to go inside because this is somebody's vehicle and there are cameras everywhere, but I was able to get a lot of info just by looking through the window. The truck has the aforementioned stereo cassette and intermittent wipers, but no A/C. It is manual, but I don't know if it's a 4-speed or a 5-speed. You will also notice that is has wheel covers from at least three different vehicles; 1991-1997 Toyota Previa on left front, some sort of 1990s Hyundai on the left rear, and what appears to be a couple of 1980s or early 1990s Nissan on both right wheels. For what appears to be a Pennsylvania truck, it does not seem to be in bad condition at all! California is, without a doubt, the best place to buy rust-free vintage Toyota pickups...

The exterior of the truck has some hints of 1986-1997 Nissan Hardbody and 1986-1993 Mazda B-series, with a lot of T-100 thrown in as well (especially the bed). However the interior, especially the dashboard, is 100% Toyota Hilux...
