This is a vehicle you will only see in California, because that's the only place Toyota sells them! It is a 2021 Toyota Mirai XLE, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle! The XLE is the "base" trim (though still very nicely equipped and starting at just under $50K, while the top Limited starts at $66K; I sat in an older hydrogen fuel cell Highlander at the Lehigh valley International Auto Show back in 2015 (pictures of which can be seen in this thread), and the Honda dealer in Doylestown has a Clarity fuel cell vehicle on display in its showroom (pictures of which I also have posted on TW), but the infrastructure to run these vehicles is only available in California (and I believe in Oregon). As such, as soon as I saw this sitting in the condo development adjacent to the marina, I knew I had to get pictures and I didn't give a shit if I got confronted by the owner; I would simply tell them that I was from Pennsylvania and visiting family, I have a Toyota myself and am a huge fan of the brand, and that I had never seen a Mirai in person before so I decided to take pictures. That didn't end up happening, but I think the owner would have understood!

Even before I ran this 1993 Previa's license plate through the smog check lookup, I knew it was no newer than 1993...

How?

This van has a style of California license plate that was issued from 1988 to 1993. Beginning in 1994, they switched to the "lipstick" plates that have been in use ever since. If this van were bought new elsewhere and then brought to California, it would have the current design! On another note, this van has failed smog numerous times according to the database...

Yet another Previa LE; I ran the plate through the BAR lookup and was shocked to discover that it is a first-year 1991 model, as I'd previously assumed it was a 1994-1995 at a minimum due to the "lipstick" plates. I then realized that it has the California DMV website at the bottom of the plate, which would mean that it was not sold new in Califoria, because according to a website I go to the DMV website was not added until late 2011. The fact that this van got smogged for the first time and only time in November 2021 (it passed) would indicate that it probably came from Arizona or Nevada due to its pristine condition...

When was the last time that anybody saw an original Prius? Bonus points for the beautiful Northern California scenery in the background! The 1st Gen Prius is just as reliable as you'd expect a Toyota product to be, but compared to any 2004-newer Prius, it is rather unrefined. It also has a couple of significant flaws, the more significant of which is that electric motor lacks the ability to run the air-conditioner when the car is running solely in electric mode, so the A/C doesn't operate when the car is in traffic. This is problematic in warmer regions. The car came from the factory with an AM/FM cassette, and the way the dashboard is designed prevents the installation of an aftermarket head unit. By comparison, it is relatively easy to install an aftermarket HU in a 2004-2014 Prius.
