Toyota Remote Connect/start auto off

Have a 2020 with the factory remote start. Once you start it remotely, the engine will run for 10min before auto shutting off. The weird thing is if you get into the car before 10min is up, opening the door also triggers the engine to be shut off... is this really happening?

How do you keep the engine on?

 

I Don't think it is possible unless you put in an aftermarket remote starter.

 

This is one of those mind boggling things... why would they design it like this? If the fob is in my pocket and I open the door, why automatically turn the engine off?
Makes sense if the door opens without the fob nearby.

 

Yes, the remote start has a time out of 10 minutes. My old truck had an aftermarket remote start and it timed out at 15 minutes. The Toyota factory, I believe the push start will also turn off as soon as you touch that handle. It is what it is. I just get back in and start it up or drive off if it has time out. It is usually warmed up and ready to roll.
