Mine was built 05/19, so probably one of the last ones before 2020 production.

How do you tell when your truck was built? Does the VIN include a code that indicates the build date? ETA; checked online and none of the VIN decoders indicated that the build date (other than year) is included in the VIN.

Yeah, online...all I can see is Order date but I think for build date, you have to look on the sticker in driver door?

This is very bad news for Toyota. I know a mechanic who's been working on cars for 50 years and he can only remember having to replace a fuel pump on just two Toyotas....TWO! (And one was for an old Supra that had been sitting for 10 years and the fuel pump was all rusted)

It is good to see Toyota doing the right thing...not waiting for years to see how many people have to die, first, like the other major auto makers have done over and over.

2019 Tundra VIN checked out OK. I guess I'll check the RAV4 too, just in case.

Haven't heard anything from Toyota or our dealers.

I actually just had to replace the fuel pump on my 2001 Tundra a couple of months ago, at about 280,000 miles. My local Toyota certified mechanic was dubious that it was really the problem for that very reason (having almost never seen it happen) even though it seemed kind of cut-and-dry obvious. But he was too busy to work on it at the time so another local shop, which didn't have that same "informed bias," didn't question it. They dropped the tank, replaced the pump, and all is good again.

Like a lot of others, I'm having trouble figuring out if my 2018 is affected. Having just been through this, I'd sure like to get it figured out.

If you're getting the "No information found for the VIN entered. Please confirm your VIN." message, this is a nice link for the sake of sanity. It will confirm if you have the VIN right, so you don't need to keep going out in the cold, scraping ice off the windshield, and second guessing whether you transcribed it correctly. It gives dates of order and first use, but not "build" date that I can see:

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

As others have noted, I guess it takes a while to get the recall database updated. What's odd though is that I'm getting that message yet know for a fact that my truck was subject to at least two other recalls that don't appear. (floormat/payload sticker issue and the TSS sensor/moisture ingress issue.)

Good info. I got the number off my insurance card, but they botched my WRX's VIN, so I'll check the tag that was on the keys from the dealer tonight. To be sure.

I found that on the 4Runner I had to make sure the 0 was a 0 and not an o. Tried like 3or 4 different combos then when right it identified it as the 2019 4Runner. Not sure if this helps anyone or not.

I wouldn't give them that much credit - they aren't doing this because of a greater sense of morality. They did a very exhaustive risk analysis and determined that the recall would be the mitigation sufficient to protect potential losses. Plus, NTSB might have been on the tails of this announcement with their own directed recall which is a black eye to the brand. Regardless, it'll get worked and the cost of this screw up will be baked back into the price of next Toyota you buy (as are the cost of previous recalls). Good news is that Toyota runs higher in quality so they can keep their prices competitive for a more quality product. At least I hope so!

I haven't read the entire thread but has anyone noticed that Fuel Pump failures is not one of the hot topics on Tundras.com?

Planning on purchasing a 2020 later in the year. Are we to assume the fuel pump on the new rigs is a different part, or are dealers fixing them before they sell them????

It's the level of hostility and venom that he used when posting it. At the top of the page it clearly states "Toyota Tundra Enthusiasts" and I personally never saw him post anything that wasn't aggressively negative about the Tundra and those of us that choose to love them. He may have been an owner, but as far as the forum goes he was a troll. It's ok to have gripes or complaints or even say that you have some buyer's remorse. It's a good that people hear about these things so they can be aware and prepare appropriate mods or manage expectations. It's being helpful.
He wasn't trying to be helpful. He was pouncing on new members that are asking about the truck before purchasing and railing on about how they should only consider fords and that tundras are so terrible and a joke and blah blah blah. Not exactly providing a welcoming or helpful atmosphere, and certainly not how the forum should be represented to new members.

Incorrect. All he did was bash Toyota since dumping it for another brand. All posts were negative

Whatever. Maybe his views were negative toward the Tundra, and maybe he wasn't "helpful" in your eyes, and maybe he was "bashing". I got a kick out of his posts. Not the same kool-aid enhanced hype posts that flood most of the threads that he chimed in on. It was sort of a breath of fresh air for those of us who have a touch of buyer's remorse and have realized that the Tundra isn't Toyota's strongest platform.

His opinion wasn't on par and in line with the grand plan for the cult - so he was booted. I'll reiterate: Lame.

I'm not sure what the final straw was, but I agree that he was never technically out of line. His posts just made me roll my eyes. But there are only so many times I can roll my eyes before i get a headache. There are plenty of other websites I can go to if I want to second guess my Tundra purchases. But only a few that embrace it. He can go away.

    A bunch
I had a few back and forth with him, and if I could say the Tundra was equal or better (happened quite a few times, especially once money was brought into the equation) he would act like a child. It basically became Toyota is 15 years old, they don't have fancy features like massage seats (and his truck could tow 13k lbs, until we found out it was a CC and could only do 9k-ish). There's a couple other Ford fans here who chime in but don't get childish when the Tundra numbers actually work better. I get there's a few features the F150 has that Tundras don't at similar price points, and if those are important to you then cool, but don't compare a $70k Platinum to a $45k SR5 for features.

So what? Who cares if someone has a different opinion than you? Even if they are shitty about it? Does it make you feel insecure about your purchase? Not me. What make me feel insecure about my purchase is the fact that I have had to fix it a lot more than I was expecting. It has been problematic. Does it annoy me that I see all of these guys on this forum that have no problems and keep touting that the Tundra is the greatest thing ever made? Yeah - it does a little. But does it make me angry and wish that they would just go away? No. They have their experiences and their opinions. Just like he did.

This forum reacts fairly negatively to anybody saying anything bad about the Tundra. I'm not sure why - maybe because it is an "enthusiast" forum. Or maybe it is because it makes people question their purchase. In my experience, the Tundra just doesn't live up to the reliability hype. But apparently I better not say that too much - I'll get banned.

This is a pretty great forum, but the rules and cliquishness feel is a bit much sometimes.

Youre right, he was entertaining and maybe didn't need to go away. He was just predictable and annoying. You've posted/ started threads about quite a few petty things that bother you in general on this forum, a lot are not even Tundra specific. So it sounds like you do care about other people's opinions.:notsure:

I also do agree with you that a lot of people drink the Kool Aid and blindly just love Toyota, and it shows on here. But like you said this is a great forum. So when there is a majority of postiveness, human nature mostly wants to join in and be positive. It swings the other way as well.

I'm just engaging in conversation here and I dont at all think you are a negative member. So please dont get me wrong. :)

    Thread reported for overt negativity.

Please take a lesson from Atomic City Tundra on how to be more inclusive and welcoming of Tundra worship/zealotry.
