I find GM's the easiest to use once you figure out the packages. Ford's is ok. Ram's is a nightmare. I don't think I've ever finished building and pricing a truck on there on my phone.

    I love the economic analysis.

toyota really let the customer down with the trd pro

reality- 100% sell through on every lot in the nation

I think they nailed their target market

The RAM rebel is awesome looking, bigger and taller than a tundra. However the motor brand new sounds as if it has 180k miles. Not smooth

You have GOT to be kidding! One engine, one transmission each (4x2, 4x4). Only 6 trim levels with options available to add onto each one. By FAR the simplest set of choices compared to Ford, GM, and Dodge!

Once you figure out the packages and figure out which engine/tranny you want.

    One Word - RELIABILITY

I don't have first hand experience with a Raptor - but I do with the engine platform that powers it. Since 2017 the Raptor uses the 3.5L Ford Cyclone EcoBoost V6 (D35 2nd generation) - my wife drives a 2014 Ford Flex powered with a 365HP (first generation) version of that engine. Our experience with the Flex EcoBoost has not been great.

Saying this engine is a very complex beast is a gross understatement. It employs Variable Camshaft Timing technology developed by Ford for the EcoBoost series. An electronically actuated spool valve adjusts a high pressure oil jet to modulate an actuator in a cam phaser on the camshaft. The result is the cam phaser advances or retards the engine valve timing. This adjusts engine performance, emissions and fuel economy.

At 45,000 miles and 58,900 miles our EcoBoost engine was torn down and basically had the entire engine timing system replaced. Timing chain, tensioner, cam phasers, solenoids... it was all covered under 5/60 warranty - but I had to fight it on the second go round and the second time it took 6 weeks to get the vehicle back (they only had one tech qualified to do the repair and he had to finish a Shelby GT with an issue).

These Raptors V6EBs will not last like our 5.7L V8s - This reason alone is what made me save my money and buy a TRD Pro (which I will be supercharging).

When I see the first 1,000,000 mile Raptor I will gladly retract my post. Oh and I bought a $3600 3 year extended warranty for the Flex...

    1) Bought with 225k miles on it, a Westin bullnose bumper, and OEM tundra steps 2) Current Mileage 238k Mods: 1) Dirty Deeds BA Mufflers 8 inch with resonator (as of Feb 2021) - Had the 10 inch with resonator - Prefer the 10 inch without resonator - deeper sound hear it more in the cab 2.) Ranch Hand Summit Front Bumper/Guard 3) Ranch Hand Summit Bumper 4) Billstein 5100s all around 5) TRD front and rear sway bars 6.) Rough Country wheel to wheel steps 7) Pioneer 8400 NEX Wireless ApplePlay 8) Backup Camera: e-raptor 9) LED white lights replaced in headlights, fog lights, inside cabin, and exterior lights 10) Linex (unbranded by Central Texas Truck Coatings) 11) OEM Toyota side panels and generic panel on tailgate Maintenance/Repairs: 1) Valve covers, belt tensioner, alternator belt - $415 2) Evaporation fuel canister and filter replacment $1547 *This was a Toyota TSB for 07-08 AFAIK. Toyota covered in first 3 years of ownership. Mine failed after 13 years of daily regular driving use. Not bad at all. 3) Pioneer Unit - had to ship to Pioneer to replace Output IC - $45 (shipping) free under 1 year warranty fix 4) Pioneer Unit - Electrical feed back coming through speakers when accelerating. Fix was to check all wiring/tighten up/ make connections good again $42. 5.) Rear passenger door actuator replaced. Part was $287 with tax on ebay from Toyota dealer free shipping. 6.) Rack and Pinion, tow mirrors, shocks install, lifetime alignment - $1884.36
    ^^

I replaced the valve covers and belt tensioner... around 230k.

A hardcore tundra enthusiast friend of mine just sold his tundra for a 2011 f250. I heard the 250 is better than the f150, but I have zero interest drinking free coffee at a ford service dept for a brand new truck...the power of marketing dollars is tremendous.

Look at the resale value % in 5 years... Tundras need some updates here and there but it will always be worth more than those two in 5 years. And you didn’t pay 75-90 k for it.

Has only had it for a month and he likes it. He went from 2017 Camaro to the Rebel. Wanted a truck because he is 22 yrs old and wants to buy a house. I tried to convince him to buy a Tundra but he wanted more on the inside of the cab. Wanted the big Audio unit screen. Also wanted the 19 speaker Harmon Kardon system.

I thought 62k was alot even though he got it with Employee price at 52k. For that I would have bought a Tundra Pro or have bought something cheaper like The TRD 4x4 and due the mods.

Saying that Toyota needs to up their game is one point of view. IMO Ford and Ram need to up their game a bit, improve their reliability, and give people who spend $70k - $80k their money’s worth in reliability. All the fancy tech and comfort features look a bit different when your new truck is in the shop and you’re driving a loaner or a rental and still making payments.

A stock raptor can’t keep up with a well built LT Tundra. A Raptor was going to come on one of our trips with us and we were pretty excited to show him up. But he broke down on the way there.

I completely agree. But I fear that the business model of enticing people with frequent updates and the latest tech at the expense of ironing out all the problems is here to stay. The domestics make too much money with this current model.

I know people who have issues with their truck just after the warranty expired so they trade it in for a new one—same truck!! That’s total insanity to me. But that’s the kind of insanity that makes automakers lots of money. They’re all about keeping their customers in a monthly payment.

Yeah I told him that. But since I was not helping him at all I could not say much. He originally wanted a Laramie 4x4 I had told him to get the Rebel but he didn't like the pictures. But when he seen it person he really liked it that he didn't even want to test drive what he originally went for......lol

This. I never had huge issues with my 2013 F150, but I had a lot of them (seat rails squeaked; cavitation in the valve body; back heated window replaced 3 times in 3 years; numerous issues with the 'media' system; back driver's side SuperCab door would not stay shut in freezing temperatures; and I could go on). And I had to fight to get EVERY ONE of them replaced.

To give you an idea of how silly they were....the back glass defroster went bad. They actually tried to tell me that despite the fact that the glass/defroster are considered a LRU (lowest replaceable unit), they couldn't replace it under warranty 'because the defroster is under warranty....but the glass it's attached to isn't.'

The 'fix' - found out the correct part number FOR them. That was just one experience - and that was essentially the same experience across the board at 3 different Ford dealerships.

Caught a Scotty Kilmer vid on youtube about Ford.. Point made about Ford was how they PUSH out the vehicles to meet the demand no matter what to meet their metrics. When an issue occurs during the assembly process, they don't slow down like Toyota and ask the multiple "why?" questions when diagnosing a problem amongst technicians/engineers. Toyota is very conservative about adopting new technologies or engine types, which IMO has served them well in the reliability department. Ford, GMC, Dodge pass the cost of bad QA'ing on the customer, which I fundamentally disgree with -- hard stop for me right there.
