Most people who run down the pro have never driven one, or even been a passenger. Toyota engineering is pretty good. Give it a try. as for the fiat and government motors corporate trucks, expect what you know will happen, and don’t be surprised.

I was thinking the same thing, either a dragon or my wife tried to park it.

as for the TRD pro, yep it’s an SR5 with better suspension. My only issue with that is that they didn’t add a locker. Aside from that issue why would you want to spend 90k on a TRX or a raptor to destroy it off-road. Wouldn’t it make more sense to buy a lower end model without the bells and BS for that purpose. I assume that is what Toyota was thinking.

IMHO, you can t blame Toyota for your disapointment. Not taking stock of your expectations before your purchase is your own fault. Your only saving grace is the resale value for your disapointing TRD Pro.

Now that I think of it, OP Sparky might be on to something with his claim that Toyota needs to step up their game. Posting this video of two extremely high priced trucks got me realizing there are other trucks out there. Toyota must have had a spell on me. I never knew! But Sparky has showed us the way. Clearly OP Sparky is a critical thinker--he figured out that his PRO is just a dolled up SR5. He has outsmarted the largest car company in the world. I don't think I would ever had made that connection. He must be the only non-mouth breather on this forum! How do we elect OP Sparky the new CEO of Toyota? Give us a true non sr5 TRD PRO BRO!!! OP SPARKY: THIS IS THE WAY!!!

Wonder if this guy got on the Raptor forum and complained in that giant thread about their frames bending.

I’m sure Ford has fixed the issue by now. From what I understand, they had put a giant weight relief hole in the frame directly over the rear bump stop. Amazing.

This, and capability. I dunno why, but my Tundra can easily go places where my old F150 struggled to.

One of the things I do with any vehicle when I get a new one is test out its 4WD capabilities. My brother owns about 80 acres in the middle of nowhere in Arkansas; and there's a pretty steep hill there. I got my F150 up it, but suffice to say it did *not* like being asked to go up the hill - and that was when it was brand new. Drove 1/2 way up it, stopped, then started again, saw how it did, put it in 4WD, and saw how it did.

Did the same thing with the Tundra...and it rolled up the hill nice as you please, no issues.

I will just say this, I worked for Toyota for years as a parts and service director. I now work with Ford and GM because they break more and have a ton of issues. I'm not saying Toyota is perfect, all cars break. Just take a look at the resale value of a Toyota, we just sold a 2007 Tacoma with 105k miles on it for 19k, you will never see a ford or a dodge do that and I have owned them both.

No worries Sparky. I'll do you a solid and give you $15k for your glorified SR5 Pro and even drop you off at the Ford/Dodge dealer of your choice.

I don’t know about the Rebel. But the Trailboss comes with low-end Ranchos and a 2” block in the rear. The TRD Fox coilovers and shocks are light years ahead. Also, Toyota tucks their lower shock mounts against the inside of the rear wheels. I could never get over how the lower shock mounts on GM “off-road” trucks hang down from the rear axle in the middle of the distance between the wheel and the diff. Seems like they’re just asking for abuse.

My major gripe with the Tundra (all trim levels) is the weak rear leafs. Probably engineered that way in the name of comfort I imagine, but it seems that weak leafs on a heavy truck is what hamstrings our door jamb numbers.

And that’s the funniest one of them all. ;)

I knew about the Fox coil overs . The Rebel has the Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs in 2019 ( they quit the remote reservoirs in 2020 )
They come with a 1” factory lift , electronic locking rear , the beefier transfer case as well as all the other stuff . I just wasn’t sure about the TRD PRO thank you for explaining it .

    This post nails it.

PS. My brother has to keep a ratchet strap in his almost as new F-150 as my Tundra for the cold mornings where his doors wont latch closed. His truck has had the recall performed already that was supposed to remedy this situation. I'll stick with Toyota.

Unfortunately I tend to agree with the OP. I think if you are going to have a TRD PRO in your line up, it should compete with the big boys. I think it should have a S/C from the factory and should be pumping out 600+ HP. It should come with a long travel suspension with big bypass shocks and lockers front and rear. The interior should reflect the Platinum with some additional items.

Toyota has so many versions of the Tundra that its confusing. The TRD PRO should be the best they offer that will kill Ford, GM and Ram.

There are plenty of lower trim levels to satisfy the rest of the folks out there that dont need all of the off road capability. But there are those of us that mod the heck out of our trucks and spend tens of thousands upgrading our trucks to get us closer to what the Raptor and TRX are.

Dont get me wrong, I love my Tundra. But I have put a ton of money in to it and could easily spend $10k more on the long travel suspension upgrades that I want along with lockers and Fox or ICON shocks to top it off.

Im well over the 80K mark in my truck and still have more to go.

    I just need a job.

As few Tundras as Toyota sells, I think they would sell very few $80k+ Tundras. And when a decent driver can do all this in a stock TRD Pro (yes, even with the stock Michelins), it makes little to no sense. Toyota has never done things solely for the cool factor or tried to look the best/most outrageous on paper.

Toyota has the fewest engine/trans combos, bed/cab configurations of all the truck manufacturers. There’s SR (work), SR5 (base), limited, platinum, 1794, and Pro trim levels. Wanna get confused? Go build a truck on the Ford or GM website. The packages alone are super frustrating.

I do partially agree, though: the Tundra used to have a supercharger option. It would have been nice if that had stayed on as a factory option.
