I don't use my phone for anything while driving nor do I use Google Assistant, so I'd rather them not have it.

Nor did I buy my truck for its ability to connect to my phone. Dont get me wrong OP its completely cool what they are doing with technology nowadays but it wouldnt sway me to buy Toyota just because I have an android.

I think it's good for them to do.. As the 2nd article says, 80% of smartphones are Android. Why cater to Crapple, which is a piddly 20% of the market? Should have gone Android first.

But that said, I don't buy a vehicle because of a cetain connectivity. As long as it has Bluetooth, I'm happy. The only thing my phone is used for in the vehicle is for Spotify, audiobooks and podcasts.

The majority of drivers do. Maybe toyota should remove bluetooth all together since 'you don't need it'.

uhhhh if you live in Asia this may be true. In the USA is closer to 50/50, and in some states iOS by a huge majority. Prob in Toyota's best interest to appease the market where most of their profits come from. Not too many tundras driving around the streets of Beijing. Toyota is already dead last in technology and features when compared to its domestic counterparts today.

Ford has had AA and carplay for... 2 years now?

Never said anything about Bluetooth. I do use it for phone calls via BT, but I'm not fidgeting w/my phone while driving. Distracted driving is bad driving.

For those with such luxury to choose based off of features good for them. As this thread is pointing out, we didn't buy based off of what was in the truck.

Not saying it's not a nice feature, but most of us don't care. We bought for other reasons. Plus those with the means will just be taking out the head unit to put in their custom stuff.

Still cool of them to be upgrading... albeit a little late compared to their competition

I just used the numbers provided by the Bloomberg quote in the OP. It would appear to be accurate as well. Just because iOS is popular in the US, doesn't mean it should be catered to by a global company over a system that is globally more popular.

Toyota sells way more vehicles in China than the US. Sounds like Android Auto would be a better choice for that market.

Too bad they can update the older systems for this. I really enjoyed AA in my Colorado, especially for Google Maps.

    ^ exactly
AA and CP are more than gimmicks. They are for bringing in data to the headunit for real, useful, accurate navigation. Not built in half baked nav/app garbage from toyota.

I hate entunes. with Apple now fully supporting 3rd party GPS, can you imagine running GAIA GPS on your HU instead of having a dedicated tablet inside your truck.

Awesome, now we can all sell/trade in our Tundras when the next gen comes out in 2021 and pay $50k+ for a twin turbo V6 with AA...:)

I'm gathering from the above comments that a lot of you don't really care if you have Android Auto or Apple Car Play. Personally, I really DO care. Not enough to keep me from buying my new Tundra, but I've actually seen the advantages you get from being able to use them. The Tundra's nav system seems "OK", but the Google/Waze combo is light years better.

Nope not these cats. They are stoked on manual seats, and the least features available. While Toyota is left in the dust behind every other manufacturer.

For those that have the Android Headunit and would like to try there is an app on the play store called "Headunit Reloaded" (Trial and a paid version. It essentially emulates Android Auto on android headunits. I have it working on my android unit. It works very well but there is a slight lag but nothing that prevents if from working. It works well with the MTC MCU motherboards not sure about those tesla style units.
