That is an American coffee. No baileys in an Irish.

this is pretty much spot on for a true Irish coffee. Whipped cream is made at home, not that bs rediwhip from the can we all used to huff once it was empty.

There are only 15 glow squatches left. A year or two they will also be impossible to find.

Ok, so reference this whole Irish Coffee thing...

When it says Irish Whiskey, we're talking about some Jameson or Bushmill's, right???

I thought someone threw out Bailey's as the alcohol :notsure:

...but, I think Bailey's is more of a liquorish type of sweet creamy something, right??

I'm thinking the recipes are calling for a good ol' fashioned 80 proof (or better :D) whiskey, correct??

I get someone wants 'real' Irish coffee and has a 'real' Irish coffee recipe; but my real Irish friend from actual Ireland makes it with Irish whiskey, Irish cream liqueur, and coffee. Irish creme liqueur is cloying anyway, so no extra sugar.

I’m curious, what is the going price for a “real friend”? I haven’t tried that for several decades. Price has always seemed too high…

yes, irish whisky, not cream liqueur. The original Irish coffee was made at the buena vista in San Francisco. @snoope and @RainMan_PNW were the only correct recipes for the original drink. https://www.liquor.com/buena-vista-irish-coffee-recipe-5208988

anyone can make a drink however they want but it doesn't change the original recipe. That's like say someone from Kentucky can make bourbon with only a 50% corn mash when we all know to be qualified as bourbon it has to be 51%.

Sadly, I have no Irish whiskey.
So I will need to make some “Irish-inspired” coffee using Makers Mark…

Well, this damn forum forced me to look up another word... I had no idea what cloying meant

So, just confirming cuz it's late... He's running Irish Whiskey as the main 'punch', coffee for the coffee, and then I'm assuming the Irish Creme is then added to taste preference (depending on how sweet a person wants it)???

So, w/his recipe, is he using any whipped cream on top or is the Irish Creme liqueur taking care of that as well????

I'm going to end up going full tilt w/this and creating about 4-5 different versions :stirthepot: to see which method is truly the best....

Thanks to all for the contributions and ideas on this little project!!!!

If anyone has any additional input or suggestions on the topic, I'll be making up a grocery list today and gathering supplies for the experiment...

Ok, so I have Bushmills and I have Jameson.... but, apparently I need some Tullamore D.E.W. (according to some dude named Nolan)

I'm also going to need some Irish Creme to try that version
Looks like the wife will handle the homemade whipped cream for me, and she already has homemade brown sugar (for those renditions)

PS>>> I'm going to need to figure out something food based to go w/this tasting, or I"m gonna end up :drunk:

For the sake of full legitimacy, we’re going to need it conducted as a blind side-by-side tasting.
And I think a few of us need to be there to test as well…

The plan will be to start w/the 'original' recipe first: Coffee, Irish Whiskey, Brown Sugar and Whipped Creme...

I'll make (3 or 4) of these to determine which whiskey I prefer when mixed w/coffee, sugar and sweetener...

Then once I have the whiskey selected, it will be a matter of comparing the best one of those versions w/the other alternatives including the one w/o sugar but using Irish creme, etc....
