So, my wife has been hiking sections of the PCT in Washington with her good friend for several years, and the finally finished the last two sections in 2020. Hiking 18-20 miles a day with 30 pounds on your back for a week, and then sleeping on a thin inflatable pad on the ground doesn't exactly make for a good night's sleep. Around 2018, her friend started buying CBD gummies when on her way from Idaho though Oregon over to our house (where they would meet before leaving on the hike). This was before the CBD is legal thing, and so the gummies were from pot shops and were high CBD but had some THC. Her friend partakes at home anyway, while my wife never really has, so my wife wouldn't take any when they were on the trail the first year. But the second year, she tried ONE and found that it really did help her sleep better (my wife is about 120lbs soaking wet, and a single cocktail will make her loopy because she never drinks).

In 2020, on their first leg of the trip, her friend had stopped to get the gummies and the place didn't carry the particular ones anymore, so she bought some that were about 50/50. That year they also ran into rain, had a half of a day they lost having to assist in the evacuation of a stranded hiker, and a bunch of other stuff. Each night, they would take one gummy each, and even though they were higher THC, my wife said that she really did feel relaxed and then slept really well.

The last day of that hike, I was going to hike in to meet them from the trailhead, and then walk back out the next day. I got stuck in Seattle traffic on my way and got a late start in, so they were already at the camp site when I got there (and it was getting close to dark). Apparently, her friend had four gummies left, so they each had two instead of one. My wife said that about 30 minutes later, her brain started to feel "cold" and she started seeing the tree branches turn into little creatures dancing around. By the time I got to their camp, she was zipped up in her tent half paranoid and worried that I'd figure out she was stoned (until she confessed to it later). Then she proceeded to heckle me while I set up my tent by unzipping enough to poke her head out, stick her tongue out and give me the raspberry sound, then giggle like a little kid and duck back into her tent.

 

It’s definitely not my thing. I don’t even drink anymore. I figure I did my share in the Navy and and immediately following… According to my buddy, the edibles hit you a lot harder when they hit and its harder to dose or gauge how much. I just figured they were actually CBD things and were safe, and since I wasn’t feeling sleepy I would just eat them all like a melatonin gummy or something. I wish I would have known what they actually were and that they “hit different.”
