Damn. That's a whole lot of work not getting done in a year. :boink:

I get 8 paid holidays a year at my company, but my schedule doesn't care about holidays. If they fall in my schedule then I work them anyway. The way ours is structured is you get 8 hours of holiday pay whether you work the day or not, but only if you don't have an unplanned (per your boss) absence the shift before or following the holiday. Basically they are just bonus pay in my position. For people working the normal M-F stuff they get the day off and paid, and if it falls on a Saturday they get Friday off, and if it falls on Sunday they get Monday off.

Don't get me started. Plus they rolled it out in such a stupid way that companies essentially said everyone is forced to use one of their vacation days to take that particular day off.

The company I worked for before would let us work Family Day and Remembrance Day and get two extra floaters, which I liked. I'd rather take my time off in the summer or at Christmas.

Pretty much the same for me except if it lands on night shift I get OT rate for working it, plus the holiday pay everyone gets.. essentially triple time.

Man, I wish. OT is time and a half, and that is only for hours worked beyond 40. Holiday has no impact on OT either. For example, Christmas was on a Thursday this year so a M-F employee would work 8 hours every day but Thursday and get their 32 regular and 8 holiday for 40. If they were to work late for some reason and got 2 extra hours on any of those days they would get paid 34 regular hours and 8 holiday. No OT.

Nah. I'm paid pretty good and if you go out of days in the year, using no vacation, I only work 6 months of the year. Week on, week off. Hard to beat that schedule.

Bonus of state employment, shitty pay (at least in my area) but great benefits. I think I have 12. Most of them I work and take the extra pay. I really only take Thanksgiving and Christmas off.

I had a similar set up for about 3 years. Worked 12s. 3 on 4 off then 4on 3 off. Had it's down falls but when I switched to 10s I figure it cost me about 3 weeks off every year.
I got a much better work environment and a raise out of the deal.
After 4 days off Mrs. Slinger is usually ready to push me down a flight of stairs anyway. I'll probably live longer this way.

New years eve, new years day, memorial day, 4th, Labor day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas for me.
I usually get an unpaid layoff day for Xmas eve, which is fine.

We used to get the day after Thanksgiving off, but now the employer says it is a mandatory work day.
It pretty much pays double-time if you consider paid for what you work plus 8 hours holiday pay for that day.
Union says it's a holiday day off, company says it is a mandatory work day.
Most work because it helps pay for Christmas, that and the local union is a bunch of spineless do-nothings..

I'm off to the last Christmas gathering at my parent's house.
Mom, Dad, my son and daughter, my sister and her 3 kids and 5 grandkids.
Wife ordered Panera catering we gotta pick up on the way.

Looking forward to coming back home and doing nothing..:D

Yeah, mine was a similar move aside from schedule. I got out from under a micromanaging shit sack, out of a ridiculously impossible to plan job, and after 6 months I had a 50% increase in pay. I am home every night, can plan days off months in advance, work for a better boss, and I'm less stressed by anything work related. The only downside is that I've gotten fatter because it isn't a physical job.

Yep, similar here on all counts. Schedule now repeats every 3rd week for me. Much easier to plan out vacations and mundane stuff like haircuts and dr appts. Not to mention working for a company that values their employees. I look at others in my profession and consider myself very fortunate to be where I am.

Same. I don't feel a need use my vacation time either. With every other week off I just feel like I already get vacations, so I only use it if I want to have a 3 week break. I really do enjoy the job and the schedule.

I use it on my siblings' children regularly. They always say "NO!" and then I suggest a different animal posterior. Good times.

Math shouldn’t be done on a holiday unless it involves counting beers.

Whisky, but yes. And the math on that is 'If I'm having one, I'm having two; and who's really counting after that?'
