My "cool" moment was walking around the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. I was on a TDY for a Partnership for Peace conference. I had no idea what the hell I was walking around but I knew it was cool. They were restoring some old mosaics of Jesus. Again, I had no idea the significance of the Hagia Sofia until I was homeschooling my daughter 15 years or so later and it was talked about in one of her lesson plans.

 

We had well over 300 kids and went through almost 5 bags of Costco candy. Two of our neighbors ran out after a few hours - it was pretty crazy. I rigged up my candy chute at the last minute and it was a pretty big hit again this year. I had to keep telling the kids to take all of the candy in the bucket. They'd take one and start walking away. I have no idea what is wrong with kids these days. In my day, I would have taken all of the candy and the damn bucket, changed costumes and do it again an hour later.

 

We had exactly zero kids come by our place, typical for being on acreage out in BFE.
We drove them in to town and hit up friends and family.

My guess is that they are 15 to 25 years old. Around the mid 1990’s , “fantasy” swords and daggers got a huge boost from various internet games and the release of the Lord of the Rings movies.
I could certainly be wrong, but it’s my guess.
There’s some features that have no recognizable historical reference.

 

Our neighborhood is full of older couples that have been long-time empty nesters… I literally thought we accidentally bought in a retirement community when we moved in 4 years ago. Turns out our side of the block is where the old people live, and all the younger families are on the other side. So basically Halloween sucks here. We go to a buddy’s place and hand out candy with him, and take our kid around to a few houses while we’re at it. This year we handed out full size candy bars. 175 of them and were gone in a little over an hour. Surprisingly, most kids just took one and we’re very happy.

 

We had about 100 trick or treaters.
Had enough candy for another 100..

Wife takes 3 or 4 pieces of candy and bags them up.
Each kids gets one.
We sat in the garage, laid the bags out on a table, and watched as the kids came by.
Funny to see them look over the bags and get the one they wanted..

It was a nice night...

We live on a short st with 6 houses. There is a connecting street with another 6 houses then a long street with about 75 houses. We hit the 3-4 house on the connector that were lit up then hit the other street and loaded up. Not one person came to our house, and we left out the open bowl.

Taking a couple days off. Might install the CB bumper shims today, in anticipation of the arrival of the Falcon's. Maybe only 2 or 3 more years...

I know I have a correlation vs. causation problem with the argument; but since I've proven that money can actually buy you love, a transaction I was assured by my parents and society at large was an impossibility, it should stand to reason that money can buy you happiness as well. I mean, there are tons of ways to buy love with money, so surely there should be at least one or two ways to buy happiness with it.
