You know I like a big, juice down your arm, 5 napkin burger from a local joint way more than a Big Mac; but both are kind of doing the same job. I'm a fan of the sawzall.

[edit] unless you were talking about actual target practice, working in the shop, or mudding your truck as therapy, and not murder, like I assumed...

My favorite was as the neighborhood was growing, we still had a lot of empty lots. The HOA rules, written by the developer gave them 3 votes for every empty lot. We were voting for a new HOA President and the current HOA President was going to get his ass handed to him. Votes were tallied and he lost, then the current HOA President threw in his 600 proxy votes given to him by the developer so he could keep his position. There were almost fist fights.

Our neighborhood was called "Hometown Kyle." The letters were attached to a stone wall. About 5 times a year, kids would come and steal the "m" and "e" so we'd be "Ho town Kyle." I liked that better. As the neighborhood grew, we had two entrances and two signs. One year they took the "m" and "e" from our older entrance. Took forever for the HOA to fix it. After they fixed it, the "m" and "e" were taken from the newer entrance. The people that used the new entrance accused the people that used the older entrance of stealing their letters to fix the older entrances sign. It was nuts.

Finally, I was able to convince the Board to take the metal letters off and pay to have somebody engrave the stupid name into the stupid stone.

    I'm so glad we moved.

The house is only 7 years old. You think it needs a roof already?

There are some extenuating circumstances here. It’s an older couple, and the wife has Alzheimer’s or something. She spends her day pacing up and down the driveway, giving us and the other neighbors the stink eye all day. On occasion she’ll go flip over all the trash cans and knock anything else over that she can.
A few months back some people came and cleaned it all up and mowed. Don’t know if it was a church group or what, but she dumped it all back out as soon as they left.
I’m trying to be patient and ignore it considering the circumstances, but the husband makes no attempt to prevent it or pick any of it up. He’s outside somewhat regularly, and seems to get around fine.
I honestly don’t know what the story is with everything, so I just pick up whatever blows into my yard and mind my own business. I’m just majorly surprised that the HOA hasn’t come down on them by now. This started in November-December of last year.

You need to get a "For Sale by Neighbor" sign and stick it in their yard. That sucks.

Yeah. I’m torn between being annoyed by it, and being understanding of the situation. We don’t know them, only talked to them a couple of times when they moved in a few years ago.
I actually had the sheriff’s department go over and check on them around Christmas last year. I saw her eating out of the trash can, and realized I hadn’t seen the husband in several days. I got worried that something had happened to him and she was fending for herself. They were over there a while, then called me to tell me everything was good.
We’ve also noticed over the last few days that their power appears to be cut off. The whole thing has been a bit of a moral dilemma for us to be honest.

We had this middle aged lady living next to us(no HOA) but she was a recluse and would never clean the yard, claimed it was migraines or something, not really sure how she afforded to live there(I think it was an inheritance) but it was funny, every now and then she would ask if we could watch her turtles while she was gone to ……… Las Vegas for a week with her friends. Maybe Vegas was the cure to her migraines?
Anyways, going into her house was a tad strange, borderline hoarder/ Amazon problem. The best part was she had no kitchen counter tops!!! All kinds of shit just in the drawer, no wonder why she ordered out for every meal!!!

Speaking of power, as a wiref*ck I can't help but notice all things electrical.
Is it common to have an exterior mounted panel like your neighbors?

Small note from personal experience... Anger, resentment, spite, all the negative things come along with dimentia. There may be nothing about her life that brings her any joy at all, except bringing other people down. Not that it's helping you any; just info.

That’s how they are mounted out here.

one thing that bothers me at my work, is how fucked up the timers/photocells are, we have emergency lights on until like 11am or one building that is just always on, no wonder the sparkies have to change so many bulbs

Interesting stuff, when I wired my house I installed the panels on my garage interior wall. Straight shot up to the attic for future circuits.

Job security! We're fighting that at work too, switching over from outdated latching/unlatching coils to standard photocell controls. Some of them latch and weld closed so the lights are always on.

Pretty normal over here on older houses.
Yup, most newer houses have a shutoff outside but the panel is inside. Older houses the panel is outside. My dad's place the house panel is outside. But the new garage panel is inside.

Not necessarily. There are two ladies at our church with dementia. One is a mean, spiteful hag, just like she was before she had dementia and the other is pretty much the nicest lady in the world, again, just like she was before her mind went.

If I have to get into the panels at this one building I’ll take some pics of the ancient “contactors” we have, I think most of the stuff is original from the 50-60s, some of the plumbing fittings are cool as hell, thick cast brass fittings connecting everything and soldered. Shoot even the gutters are copper with a beautiful patina

My biggest complaint about where we live is a lot of the houses have the panel in the middle of the common room in the basement for some reason. So you either have to look at it or build a little cupboard to hide it.

Or buy a house with the panel in the furnace room where it belongs, like we did.

Yeah, actuality I can think of a couple.
Back a hundred years ago when I did service work, there were times where we converted the inside panel into a junction box due to short wires and mounted the new panel outside.
