They are some crafty bastards. Here we have residential developments encroaching on rural land. Especially within a couple of miles of the dismal swamp. The number of people going to city council meetings complaining about bears, snakes and coyote is mind boggling. You dumasses, you moved here, they're the natives. Don't get me started on the people that move next to the navy's largest jet base and complain about jet noise.

Exactly. I've got a snowbird friend with a second house down there. He had a small one in the pool. He just had his son take it out. And before someone calls child protection services, his son is a 30 year old ex marine with an unhealthy lack of caution.

We have a local Air national guard unit that switched from A-10s to F-15's. It's been a military air base since 1938, yet the complaints went through the roof. We might be seeing the F-35s move in soon

The one here is a master jet base. It's home to every east coast carrier squadron. 1941. Virginia Beach opened up the area to residential and retail development. The navy pur it on the BRAC list, VB backed down.
About 4 miles from my house, there's an auxiliary landing field, they practice touch and go's and they have arresting gear too. Some nights they're training and it's loud, but close the windows and deal with it.
It was built in the middle of nowhere, mostly corn fields, when I was in high school it was the perfect place to go parking. When the gates were open, just tuck into a spot and do what 16 year olds do. When you couldn't hear the jets anymore, haul ass, because they were closing the gates.

I live in an A-10 town, I think they’ve got 4 more years, but the new birds are already being phased in. The base is one of the main reasons the town is still around I’m sure.
I’ve also been at my favorite mountain top lake and watched the warthogs do fly bys right over the lake, tipped 90 degrees, soooo cool!
