We had K-Mart, Ben Franklin, TG&Y, Fotomat, Radio Shack, Waldenbooks, Eckerd Drugs, Weingarten's - - the demise of most of them was probably due to Walmart's success. Not hating on them, though.

 

RadioShack is the only one of those we had. It still exists and is called The Source now.

 

And on @Jim LE 1301 could very well be an extremely high number

 

There was a K-Mart in Abbotsford, BC when I was a kid. It disappeared somewhere around 1995. Give or take a year or two. Pretty sure Sears took over the building.

I was riding in a "White" Blackhawk helicopter in Macedonia with the doors wide open. The pilots decided to fuck with the broadcaster and dropped sideways into a river ravine and then did that high speed map of the earth shit or whatever the called it. I felt like I could reach out to the side and touch the water. They didn't get the reaction they were looking for. After I caught my stomach, I was loving every minute of it. After about 10 minutes or so I guess the base control radioed to them and told them to knock it off, they were freaking out the locals.

I seriously doubt I could have handled a jet ride though.

 

Our little town in Northern Michigan had an IGA. It was such a cool little store.

Sweet, my ride alongs all occurred in the 80s/90s. I had some pictures but they got destroyed when my parents basement flooded.

 

We had those here even in the cities until recently. When Sobeys and Safeway merged, they tried to close them and were told they had to be sold to someone else.

 

When I was in grade school my grandmother worked at K-Mart and Kresge’s she was the Blue Light Special Lady. This was in Billings Mt

We had Woolworths drug store with a real soda fountain

 

Caldor, Ames, Bradlees. Some local chains like Steigers, plus Sears and JC Penny in the mall. We had Waldenbooks and Radio Shack as well

 

My Grandfater was a pharmacist, he owned 2 pharmacies, both with soda fountains. CVS and Walgreens destroyed him

 

One of my first jobs was bagging groceries at IGA

Snagged a couple Double Tigers and one cougar the two years I worked there

 

So, a 25 year old will straight up look you in the face and ask if you’ve ever heard of Led Zeppelin.

 

I’m so susceptible to motion sickness, I blew lunch flying a hang glider. Pathetic, I know!
