This is Talkeetna, today. Just got back from the post office. Figured I’d share, since it’s slow in here.

yes. This is Main Street, and basically all of Talkeetna in one picture.

the Fairview Inn was built between 1920 and 1923.

Nagley’s Store founded in 1921.

The Roadhouse is on the end to the left built in 1917.

 

That looks like a nice small town. It also looks cold. Really cold considering we live in Arizona where it is 81°F right now. It does not look colder than the North Pole when we surfaced the submarine I was on up there. THAT was cold.

 

It is a nice town, different life than in the states for sure. Everyone knows everyone and their business. It’s quiet in the winter, and full of tourists in the summers.

it is super warm here for the time of year. 27F and snowing. Usually February is opposite, -27 and freezing.

Definitely not as cold as being in the Arctic surfacing in a submarine, but I’m not complaining.
I sure would like some of that sun sent this way though

I spent the day in San Antonio today - started shopping at Randolph AFB and ended up hitting stores all the way up I-35 to San Marcos. Mrs. Banditos b-day is Monday so I gave the day to her. Unfortunately for her, she had to drive there while I slept. The VA is trying me out on Candesartan as a preventative for my migraines. Took a half a pill last night and woke up dizzy, a hell of a migraine and my BP (which is normally perfect) at 92/56. I'm going to give it two more days to see if I even out and then call it quits if I don't. I told them this would happen. Give me a barbiturate and it does nothing to me but make me smile, give me a Benadryl and I'll sleep for 3 days.

Anywho, I started feeling better after we got to the base so I was able to drive everywhere after that. As she shopped, I wandered.

At some point on here, we were talking about mustard. I found some really cool Plochman's varieties at the Randolph Commissary.
I'm pretty content with Yellow so I didn't buy any of the Sweet Fig or Cranberry mustard.


While she was shopping for shoes, I went to Petco and found what would be a fine ToyoMafia mascot, the Skinny Pig. I have a feeling somebody in the back room was shaving Guinea Pigs and slapping on an upcharge. Damn thing is hairless and still grows a better beard than me.

• Canadians don't know what good candy is.
• @Outbound ate some pigeon and got rabies. Again.
• Some people don't like the bread heels (the ends of the loaf). Others use them to make tomato and cheese melts.
• Lots of beer consumed by the usual suspects.
• Pineapple doesn't go on pizza.
• Somebody got a slap on a 3rd gen and @War Machine donated to their air ambulance charity.
• @TaquitoBandito calls chicks who don't landscape "earth muffins"
• @Fotnot is buying everyone a @gosolo knife. I suspect this is to celebrate another little one on the way in the near future.
• The rest is a blur.

We just get his card, he pays us, then disputes the charge, then we pay him and dispute the charge, rinse, repeat, in perpetuity. Flawless plan.
