The chicken houses in Alabama make more profit from shipping chicken feet overseas than they do off the whole rest of the bird.
    Seriously.

Really? So strange to me that it would have a greater profit margin than the bird itself. Off the top of your head, do you know where they are sent/what culture originated the eating of the bird feet?

There must be some kind of texture or flavor here that makes it popular. Granted, and this may be because I'm a spoiled first world snob, I would guess eating the feet started somewhere/sometime when nothing could afford to be wasted, and evolved into a bit of cultural identity that is now a way to honor the hardships of the past with a recognizable dish that is going to start conversations. Traditional foods can be weird, or unappealing (think haggis) , but the culture keeps them going through the centuries.

I find it interesting that a taste can be developed through necessity, and then it becomes the norm. Look at hot food. Not full on 100%, but lots of the national cuisines that are hot come from places that were/are poor by a global standard. Spices made people rich, and they didn't get rich by selling them cheap, so flavorful foods are expensive. Hot is pretty easy to come by, though, and it sure beats the hell out of bad flavor or no flavor at all. The places that couldn't afford all the expensive spices resorted to heat, and over time it has just become a preference in those kinds of places. Hot food in America is generally a novelty, but in places like Mexico or Thailand, etc. it's hugely prevalent.

I'm running on very little sleep and a 20 oz redbull today, so apologies if I've derailed, yammered on, or offended anyone... wait... nope, don't care if anyone is offended, but I apologize for rambling. :D:thumbsup:

    Typically, Asian areas.
I was surprised to hear the profit margins as well.
There’s no production time in the feet, whereas the rest of the bird has to run a conveyor.
Plus, margins are extremely slim on the rest of the bird.

I just cannot get used to the fact that I'm in a country that loves bacon but its natives seem aghast when I take half a pound of thick sliced bacon, chop it into small squares, fry it off and use it in my version of mac and cheese. What is wrong with you people? :boink:

Wait, what? Who wouldn't want bacon in mac and cheese? You can buy it premade at the grocery store for crying out loud.

Can't say that I'm too keen on putting any more processed junk into my system than I have to.

I would put up my version but all hell will break out when someone spots the garden peas in it. :(

Dude, you're in a thread with wok fried chicken feet. Pretty sure we can handle/adjust a mac and cheese recipe. Hell, just market it as a casserole so the mac'n'cheese purists don't recognize it. You'll be good.

We really need to get you out and adventrure-ize your palette some. :boink: I'd never force somebody to try something, but I've tried stuff that just didn't sound good or was made with things I didn't/don't like, and I've been pleasantly surprised several times.

Actually, I have been experimenting lately and have expanded my palette quite a bit. I used to be very, very limited in what I would consume. But by trying new things I have discovered that I actually like some stuff that I used to think was gross.

For example, I now quite enjoy stouts, porters, and black lagers.
