Towing Limit on flat land

    Hopefully the person who is trying to tow 14k with his Tundra also has a dash cam with an in-cabin view for the Youtube compilation.

    Modern diesels aren't worth it unless you tow a lot of weight a lot of the time. Even then they are not goid daily driver/commuters for short trips. If it's only towing 4 or 5 times a year, get an HD gasser.

    I would make the argument that, in private / non commercial use cases, you should just opt for a 1 ton SRW instead of a 3/4 ton SRW.

    For a lot of manufacturers, the main difference between the 3/4 ton SRW and 1 ton SRW is the presence of overload springs - which are not engaged if the truck is unloaded. In these cases, theoretically, they should ride similarly.

    If you don't need the capacity of the full 1 ton and you aren't getting the diesel, then a 3/4 ton gasser is fine. If you are dead set on diesel, then 100% get the 1 ton. The diesel engine is heavy enough that it takes a massive bite out of the 3/4 ton payload, which is the first thing people will generally run out of on any truck. For towing it's the primary limiting factor on Tundras.

    That's not out of the question & getting a 'new' rig isn't even on the table. For infrequent use there's no point spending a ton of money on a new HD truck.

    Goal is find a rig that is set up and good to go, pre-2020 to mid 2000s age range. Don't care too much about mileage and more about solid maintenance history and tasteful upgrades. No BroDozer in our future.

    We may just hang on to the Tundra - long paid off, cheap to own, and so damn reliable.

    I 100% would rather trim down the trailer to fit the Tundra vs towing too large or messing with an HD truck. There's plenty of usable trailers that are within the limits of a Tundra.
