It’s definitely a weird one, I’m the worst Eagle Scout when it comes to knots. The brummel is a self locking knot, but you either need both ends loose, or you can do it all from one end, but can’t be used with a big fixed eyelet(like your flat link)

So I was doing some quick YouTube education and it’s starting to look familiar. The original eyelet on the warn had kinda a hybrid Brummel/bury thing going on. I was trying to undo it and save some rope but couldn’t figure out how to reverse engineer it. Makes sense now; they musta crossed with both sides and then attached to winch drum after the fact (not really sure but assume winches comes spooled up). Thought about it for 35 seconds then, snip.

It took me a while to find the video using both ends, most people just do it with one end and make their own soft eyelet. I have the splicer link, so it had to be done using both ends, I might rebury my tail, it didn’t/doesn’t look tight where I tucked it into the core for some reason. I might get lucky and be able to spoil my winch this weekend.
I’m not a expert or salesperson, but I recommend getting one of these too, it’s prevents you from ever unspooling your much line

Got one! Sitting in my garage currently but going to go into my recovery box

On another note: received these in the mail today. For sure thought it was an offer up scam but I guess not :notsure:0D67FC63-15F1-4DE0-B325-211E3AE4FDF4.jpg

Got the winch going today!!! image.jpgAlso my burry isn’t as terrible as I originally thought it was.
I found my line lock today, and thankful it’s wide enough to fit my eyelet thru so I can have double redundancy for safety 5CBD37E7-9BA6-47C7-8F1F-062C60D04BFE.jpg
It makes more sense when it’s on the spool……

I don’t have a ton of gear or experience, I was telling my buddy, I’d love to mess around at camp and do some pulls and get more Used to using everything. tomorrow I’ll take my tree saver and soft shackles to the kids school and spool the drum with slight parking brake applied.

I’ve never used a snatch ring before. Assume it’s the same as a snatch block but getting the line to stay seems a little more tricky (unless you have that factor 55 with the spikes)

You must be a knot master then! I know the fisherman’s knot :D:rofl:

:D Not anymore! I remember maybe one knot from those days. Would have to look it all back up. I have books on knots somewhere?? Just more proof, if you don't use it, you lose it.

Nick How is this working for you? did you get the tire mounted on here. Thinking about something similar for a temp mount for a 37x12.50r18. how is the flex/bounce

So far so good (I think). Haven’t gotten a tire in there yet but hopefully this weekend! I’ll post up a photo once I do and tag you so you get a notification. Just finished painting, next coat will be a can of black flex seal. Hopefully it lasts as long as I need it to; I think it should. It’s really stout and sure beats putting a tire on the roof or in the back seat.

Can’t remember; how tall is you rack? Those cross rails take away a good chunk of real estate so just be mindful of that. Mine took away ~5 inches.

thinking of using some carriage bolts in the tracks of the retrax rails to bolt a plywood sheet then use a Y rachet harness to mount the Tire down. I should have 12.5" of clearance above the plywood sheet. Should fit an aired down 12.5 tire.

Yup you could do that. A better bet might be to do like 4 pieces of unistrut across. Would make it easy to bolt it to your rails and would be very stout. Would make it easy to mount a Y-strap to as well. Just a thought..

It also goes by the brand name superstrut. Can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. The holes will make it easy to attach straps. It comes in different shapes so you could get a lower profile one

Deep or shallow or double deep or back to back deep.
We used to use it all day hanging kitchen exhaust hoods. I use it as crossbars on my rack. Many combinations of hangers and brackets for strut, it’s great!

Once you are layed out, the line will hold the ring fine. I do have that 55 but haven’t used it yet. It is cool though.

Maybe in my next life I’ll fab unistrap rack kits. I already have what I think would be a slick and strong design in mind….
