Anyone else have this happen to them? Fuel door just snapped off in my hands when I opened it to get fuel! Brand new truck. 3rd fill-up. Ever.

A very cheap design for a 50K class vehicle IMHO.

I'd be more concerned with the tacky tape pinstripes, or the silly door edge guards.

A couple hundred thousand pieces go into these trucks, every now and then something happens, no way around it. Take it back to the dealer and they will order a replacement. Damn near a none event.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
Brand new to you? That gas cap doesn’t look brand new. It’s scratched up and not painted the way it comes from factory.

    Wow.

Thanks for critique of my truck. That really helps me.

Was wondering if anyone has had a freak thing like this happen to them.

    Have a nice day.

Well that sucks... your thread name is off, any tonka toys I had as a kid held up seriously to some abuse. This goes for my friends that had the same. If this is the only issue you have to go through(which is still annoying) then you're good.

And there are always dicks out there that talk smack. I'm not going to give you a hard time about your truck unless you're asking for it. The thing about this forum is that we all have different styles put in our trucks that we like and they are all unique. If they were all the same then it would be boring. I haven't seen any threads ever of this happening, so this one apparently just slipped through quality control at Toyota

Mine seems to be holding on pretty good. I’m sure the dealer will take it care of it for you. Is it possible the truck was damaged during delivery and they fixed the damage, and this is a result? It looks like it should just snap back on. Maybe a little liquid nails or a quality plastic glue.

Truck is brand new. 2020. I’ve put 1300 miles on it.

And we always called our Toyota’s “tonkas” back in the day in Southern California. Because they were bomb proof. Best truck to take on a surf or ski trip in the 80’s by far. Guess I just dated myself. :)

Your looking at the inside of the door, where the bracket is/was attached. The outside is perfectly smooth and painted like every other Tundra. FYI. :)

    Nice truck.
I have not seen that happen, but I'm sure it's an easy fix.
Swing by the dealer and see if they can fix it while you wait.

Weird.. my ‘16 gas door inside was painted to match exterior... was it repainted or repaired at one time?

Truck is brand new, warranty will take care of it. But I was at the dealer today and the staff were in disbelief. It was comical. Thought I’d share and see if anyone else has had the same issue.

And, they weren’t able to fix it. Have to go back. They pre-ordered the wrong parts for the repair. No biggie.

....right. What we are saying is that the picture you uploaded makes the inside of gas door look like it was unfinished or repainted at one point...

I haven't seen or heard of this either and our fuel doors get LOTS of use! Hopefully this is an easy fix and an isolated issue of a lack of quality control / craftsmanship. Good luck and welcome!

Don't lump it in with overall truck quality just yet. It's a fluke mishap and once you get your new one, you'll be all set.

Total fluke I’m sure. Dealership was in disbelief. Said they have never heard, let alone seen this happen.

Funny part is that I’m sure the fuel door on my old 1985 blue Toyota pickup is still working, wherever it is in Mexico right now.

I think we're going to need a better quality photo of the inside of your gas door before we decide to take our torches and pitch forks to your house, or Toyota HQ. /s

All jokes aside, I'd be frustrated too. Let us know what the dealership does.

I haven't had my truck much longer than you and I'm with you brother! That shit shouldn't happen, but I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. Overall, the quality feels a step or two lower than my previous 2000 Tundra and I find a lot of the plastic parts cheap feeling and durability is a little concerning. For example, I replaced my exterior mirror caps (chrome to color match) and that took all of a minute and a half. Pop out pop in! That being said, this engine/trans have a great track record, I love the roominess, capability and looks. Overall, I am happy with it.

You know.... There are times, vehicles are wrecked in the lot, but as long as its below the 500$ mark they wont disclose it, not even at the final paperwork process... Its sketchy especially when the stealership has their own body shop in the lot.

I’ve owned 2 F150’s. Each one was a daily driver. Great trucks. Had each one for approx 10 years each. No complaints or issues with my 98’ or 07’ vehicles.

“Fisherman 951”...so Riverside, CA? What do you like to fish for? The last 5 years have been world class offshore fishing in SoCal.
