To fender flare, or not to fender flare? That is the question.

After fender flares removed. Like this look better until I get bigger tires and wheels.

These Tundra blackout bumper covers were easy to install and covered up the chrome really well.

New all black TRD Decal, black bumper covers from ExtremeTerrain, 3/1 level kit, 20” factory wheels, 275/55r20 tires, Lomax bed cover. Next project: 18x9 Fuel Assault wheels with 33” mud terrain tires... then I might put the Bushwacker flares back on. Didn’t care for the same body color painted flares.

Hey! 3/1 level kit, 275/55r20 Wranglers on 20” factory wheels, Lomax bed cover, black emblems and decals, front and rear bumper covers from ExtremeTerrain. Hated the Bushwacker flat black fender flares and removed them. Need to jump up (or down) with 18x9 Fuel Assault wheels and 33-35” tires if I’m ever going to put those flares back on. Your rig is awesome. Bigger and better.

That is what happens when tires are outside the wheel wells. I use to go mudding with a dude that had wide tires on a CJ5. It threw rooster tails of mud and was a mess when done. I don't really understand these folks in Jeeps that get rid of their fender flares. One ride in the mud with top off and they won't like it.

Nope, just 3 existing screws to undo, they slip over your existing bumper, have 3M tape on the back, position them, and screw the same three screws back into the same place. You could remove them and have brand new chrome stock bumpers if you wanted. Look great, easier and less permanent than painting, cheaper than getting new bumpers, and pretty easy to put on even for a beginner.

Put clear PPF on before installing any flares.

Bushwackers don't fade in the sun. I had mine installed right out of the box for over 5 years and never put anything at all on them before I had them Line-X'ed.

@Kerktam I just ordered those flares also and think they look great painted. Can you share with me what primer, paint and clear coat you used? I would be happy if mine come out looking as good as yours!

Make sure you install PPF before you put the flares on.

Thanks! I am going to have my tint shop do it. I plan to call them tomorrow.

Did you install PPF from the top of the flare all the way down, or just where the rubber will touch the paint? Do you have any pictures of your install?

I used the Bushwacker one for now so that I wasn't launching crap up the side of the truck. There was a post today about BW being aware of the seal issue and sending out a "C" channel seal. There is also another member that found a larger seal. I am going to call BW tomorrow and inquire about this new seal. Here are those posts.

First post here. I chose the Bushwacker Extended Flares. These are the 1.5" smooth variation from Bushwacker. I then had a local body shop do a base coat/clear coat color match of my Barcelona Red Pearl Metallic Paint. I installed these flares in preparation for a set of 20x9 +18mm Raceline wheels I will be installing next week. I wanted to ensure I had coverage with the new wheel offset. BRPCM.jpg

@XMARGH Looks good! What did the body shop charge? Ones here in CO are quoting me like $600!

Do you have a pic of the flares with the rubber seal before putting them on? Or just a close up of the rubber seal? I need to order one and I'm trying to figure out which one seals the best.

The body shop locally charged me $350(cdn) ~$275(US) for an OEM Paint on all 4 flares. For the rubber seal I would honestly call Truck Hero who owns Bush Wacker, speak to them and see what they can do. To be honest I was shipped the front flares without the brackets to mount the center bolts and as we speak they are sending me two complete flares with brackets free of charge for the missing parts, even though all I need is the brackets.

Welcome aboard! And please post more pics of your Tundra. I'd love to see some full truck pics with those flares - I have a Barcelona red as well and have been studying flares for a while.
