    I feel your pain TB. Hang in there. I've lived in high altitude climates in the west for most of my life and have had my share of lost electricity and water, ice dams on the roof, frozen and broken pipes, etc. I'm sure you know this trick, but open all of the lower cabinet doors that house faucets. Pipes that run on outside walls are especially vulnerable. Open all of the faucets (both cold and hot) to run at a fine, small volume run. For those with a gas range, run pots of water full and place them on the range to get, and stay hot. I managed to live in my kitchen for 5 days in 1998 doing this. Massive ice storm knocked out power and locked the city down. Fortunately, the NG kept running. If you have a gas fireplace that only needs a pilot to be lit, check it out. Mine will light even with the power off. Must be a battery back up.

    Probably - our American KitKats are so far behind the rest of the worlds. If you have a World Market near you, head in and go to the candy section. They'll have different KitKat flavors from around the world... I have no idea why we are so far behind in KitKat Flavorology - This is supposed to be America, damnit!!

    It'd be like the Germans invading Russia in WW2 - the Canadians could just lay low (eating special KitKats, no doubt) until winter and pick us off. Plus, aren't the Canadians the only country that has every occupied the White House - I know the Brits take credit for setting it on fire but I thought it was Canadians working with the Brits.

    I mean, US SOCOM has more active duty personnel than our entire regular force. Guerilla warfare would be our best option. The problem Canadians have is that most of us who own guns would actually welcome annexation by the US (and that's as political as I'll get ;) ), so resistance would be light and disorganized.
