I have a 2005 SR5 2WD AC. I have ‘inherited’ a nice set of 285/75/16s. My question is, would it be too much work to make these tires fit and function properly? I don’t really want to run spacers, cut into anything, or purchase new wheels if I don’t have to.

If there isn’t a good way to make these work, what is the biggest tire size I can run?

    Thanks in advance

That depends what is your suspension setup?

I have 285s and they clear fine, but I also have a small lift, and my fender flares were removed.

I believe it is stock all around. I will say it does seem like the front sits higher than other stock 2WDs I’ve seen. I will check, but don’t believe it has a leveling kit or anything

I run 285/70/17 a 2 inch lift would be more than enough for those to fit. Stay away from lift spacers though currently dealing with it and it isn't worth it.

265/75-16 tires will rub on your frame. The 285's are both taller and wider. If you're fine with ties rubbing on everything, then 285's will fit perfectly.

That’s what I’m trying to combat - not really wanting my tires to rub too bad

Rubbing is rubbing. “Not really wanting my tires to rub too bad” is subjective. Lucky for you that you have a 2wd truck. That means it will only cost half the amount to install lower ring and pinion gears to offset the much larger than stock 285 tires.

I’m in a similar situation. I’d like to put 265/75-16 Defenders on my stock DC 4x4. But based on what you said and what’s in the tire size thread it will rub. https://www.tundras.com/threads/official-tundra-wheel-and-tire-setups-pics-and-info.95/

I have to replace shocks and struts soon. So, could consider a little leveling to accommodate this tire size. Can you help me decide what is the bare minimum amount I need to lift/level to fit them? And, if I go Bilstein 4600s what spring gets me there? Could also do 5100s on my stock spring. I need a little help.

I don't know those answers. Someone else will have to chime in.

Whether you rub or not isn't a function of lift, so much as a function of your wheel specs (offset + width, i.e. backspace).

Without knowing specs on your wheels, nobody will be able to give you even a semi-accurate answer without blindly guessing. Knowing how much tires cost, I don't think anyone on here would dare (though we do have a few fans of chaos here) offer a suggestion without knowing more about your wheel choice and/or upgrade plans.

Thanks for that info. I probably have enough chaos in my life so I should probably mention - I have stock 16” wheels so I think the specs are:
    • 16" wheels - Width: 7", Offset:+15mm, Backspacing: 4.5", Hub BoreDiameter = 106mm
No plans to upgrade if at all possible. Trying to keep it mostly stock with the exception of a little larger tire.

I can probably verify backspacing if you can post a shot of the stock wheel. There are a couple of 16" variations on the 1st gen.

Here are the 16” wheels I have.

I think that's 42611-AF110, this wheel, I think that's also what @455h0le_dachshund is running. If so, 4.6" backspace is pretty favorable, great in-the-middle number as far as poke vs. tuck goes, and you know those 16" won't rub with your later-year 13WL calipers as long as you're running outer lip wheel weights.

With no lift, I probably wouldn't try going any farther than a full inch from stock with 265/75r16. You'll get a lot of grace because you have the skinny flaps, not the bulky plastic ones I and some others have. That gives another ½" clearance, and you can probably align out any major rub.

If you wanted to level and keep a solid ride, Bilstein 4600, OME 2883 spring, with these isolators to use with those springs, you'll get roundabout this stance **IF** you're 2WD. If you're 4WD, you may get ½" less up front, and OME 2884 will get you closer to that stance. That's only if you wanted to roll a little lift in. But again, lift doesn't clear tires as much as proper alignment and good wheel fitment will.

Thank you!!! Mine is 4WD. How much lift would you estimate with that leveling setup? Sport rake?

4WD DC with the OME 2884 in either the 4600 or 5100 is going to settle out having you nearly level. Nearly identical to that 2WD Sequoia with 4600 + 2883 combo.
