Not there - but my guess...

Shop left something open, courtesy light remained on and truck wouldn’t start as battery drained.

Kid is told to jump it - grabs jump box and cannot tell + from - and reverses the cables on jump.

Shop tries swapping battery - not working, has to tell customer BEFORE they arrive. If it would have been just battery - they would have told him after pickup...or not at all.

No, I agree they would not just GIFT a customer a battery, and wouldn’t touch it if not needed. Also agree - on most vehicles it’s tough to reverse things ON PURPOSE. Jump boxes have the little light to tell you correction is right...cables have no such fool proof warnings. Stupid will always win out if you let it.

    2018 was standard brand wide.

Possible they had it before on certain higher trims in 2017, but all models got it standard in 2018 from memory.

My 2012 SR5 Tundra I just traded off had the TPMS sensors in it....

Doesn't matter how idiot proof one makes something, someone will always make a bigger idiot.

I have to agree with most the comments here, definitely more to this than a flat battery. Honestly, leaving a door open on a Tundra wouldn't kill the battery. My old 2012 and my 2020 both turn everything off on their own after like 20 min of activity to keep the battery from dying and not being able to start the pickup. Only time I managed to kill a battery in my 2012 was when I was doing the wiring on my boat trailer and was leaving the lights on and not running the engine for a while. Idk in a 19 or 20 anymore if a guy could even kill a battery that way now. I'm betting the pickup would turn them off on it's own now days too.

They did something weird to kill it, and messed up jumping it and tossed a free battery in Hope's to fix it and cover their tracks.

    My 2007 has TPMS

Does it have a good stereo in it? Maybe the tire gimps cranked up the stereo to listen to tunes while they "worked" all day?

No need to. The TPMS sensors are not connected to anything electrically and have their own power cells.

This is my new favorite saying. There are plenty of people out there working on making the newest biggest idiot.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.

Be sure to ask to see the old part/parts replaced. Make sure this is well documented on the paperwork you received. In short CYA sir. Just in case down the road something acts up. Good luck to you and your Tundra.

I would have it towed to the dealership and let them replace it and send the tire shop the bill. No way I would trust a tire shop to do major electrical work. If it's like older toyota models, the fuse block needs to be pulled to replace the main fuse.

A place that put a battery in backwards (never came close to doing this) would not be “keeping my truck”, I would insist they take it to a dealer. Not a fan of a stealership but it has to be better than a tire shop with Monkeys that install things backwards
