the place I take my tundra to always loads up the tires with the tire shine. It flung up when driving and when I wiped it off my paint it left yellow stains in it. I never had a problem before on my last white car but on the tundra it caused a huge issue. From what I’ve found online the paint is fucked and would have to sand down through the clear to the paint to remove the stains. Guess it’s a chemical reaction type thing that causes it with some paints certain manufacturers use.

Anyways, I’m looking for a good alternative to the thick gunky stuff normally used. Maybe a water based dressing ? Any suggestions on quality products that won’t stain the truck ?

I always use black magic tire shine. I spray it on and wipe the excess off. Never had an issue....

I use cover all. Long lasting, inexpensive, no sling, and no wipe. It rocks

Try using GOOP. It is a laundry stain remover, although they claim hand cleaner. It is white & consistency of pudding, comes in a short round white tub - find it in the laundry detergent aisle. I have used this, rubbed in with a rag & polished off with a clean cloth - to remove stains like road tar & paint overspray. Sounds like you need to let it soak a bit after rubbing in, but I think you should get good results. GOOP

What did they use? Sounds like some type of acid. Do you have a dual action polisher?

I like em pretty shiny. I’ve used some spray on products before and they usually look good for a day or 2 then dull a few days later

I think they used some pretty standard stuff. Not sure exactly but I’m def gonna ask next time I go back. It was a thick white liquid they put on a brush and rub on the tire. I used to do mobile detail back in the day and used something similar that was a concentrate and you add water to it. I bought it from the wholesale detail shop but I never had anyone tell me it messed up their cars but I also wiped the excess off to prevent it from flinging everywhere.

I do have a polisher but from similar stories I found on other forums it sounds like I’m going to need to wet sand it down to the paint if I want to get rid of them.

I think I read it’s an issue that happens on some single stage white paints some manufacturers use. I’ve been going to this car wash forever and on my last white car no issues like this. I’ve been taking the tundra there for 6 months with no issues but I just recently put tires with a more aggressive stance on so now everything flings up the sides so probably why I just now noticed it happening.

I use chemical guys TVD shine dressing. No sling at all. Not as shiny as you would like though.
That sucks about your paint. My buddy owns a body shop and he sanded my brothers car. It was a mustang...looked great when he was done. Then he polished it afterwards.

I agree with @War Machine try to clay bar. Then after that maybe light polish like meguiars 205,. I have corrected some spots on my car with a compound 105 meguiars. Or just get it wet sanded. And call it a day.

I’m gonna try everything including that besides wet sanding. Not willing to go that far but from what I’ve read clay bar isn’t working.

Try some cleaner wax. Red bottle, I think it’s Mother’s or Maguires. Works surprisingly well.

I found this forum with someone with similar issue.
    https://www.autopia.org/forums/car-...ed-tire-shine-stain-car-white-paint-help.html

Here’s a quote from someone on that forum. Hopefully he don’t know what he’s talking about for my sake.

“This is an age old problem, brought about by dimethal silicone in a petroluem distillate carrier.

Unfortunately, the only true fix is to strip the paint down to at least the ecoat or all of it and have reshot.

The crap is "in" the paint, in my decades of addressing paint issues, this is one that I have never found a consistant, easy fix for.”

I had some spots similar to those. But mine were purple or blue. Looked like tar before I removed it. I had to work it quite a bit with the cleaner wax. I even let it sit on it a few times. It was still faintly there. Next time I went to wash it and it was gone. Strange lol

It probably wont work in this situation...but for tough spots i use that magic eraser with an all purpose cleaner. It is amazing what that stuff removes. And does not hurt anything from what ive seen.

Its beyond the surface. Similar to a stain in stone or something porous. It needs to be drawn out.

Yeah they were just the normal black fling u get from that tire shine stuff. But when I wiped it with a damp microfiber BOOM yellow. probably would have taken months and multiple car washes before I even noticed but I decided to wax the truck today and when I wiped the shit off I was given those treats.

I’ll give that a try though and hopefully they disappear like yours.

No promises. I have probably a crate full of different products that all come in handy in one way or another. I always try least aggressive first. Sometimes it’s about finding the right chemical that breaks down what you’re working on. Good luck. If you can be patient, maybe it will fade over time. Just work on those spots every time you wash it. Better than sanding or painting.
