Tire rub/heat to reshape plastic

    I just bought bf goodrich 275 65r 20 ka02 and black rhino warlord 20x9 wheels with 12 offset, i placed a 2.4 leveling kit on the front, the wheels rub in the front and rear of the front wheel wells badly, I read some have used heat to reshape the plastic inside of the wells?

    Yeah some people have used heat guns to reshape. The front liner you can take the screws out of the bottom and shove it forward and reuse the same holes in the bumper. But you can get some clearance that way. On the back you might be able to reshape it some with a heat gun. You might even have to chop the cab mount.

    Where exactly are you rubbing? I'm guessing by badly for sure on the flaps both forward and back of the front tires. Those will have to come off and then you can see if you're rubbing against the cab mount at the rear of the front tires, if so then CMC for the front for sure. You can try the heat gun on the liner at the front of the tires ... I did, and it helped a bit. Still rubbing in reverse so I think I'm gonna hit it again this weekend.

    I used a heat gun to mold the front inside liner as much as possible and I had to do some trimming where it wraps and bolts below the metal bumper.
    Also had to do a CMC which I bet you need too.

    If my math is correct, his 275/65/20 will equal just over 34" (34.075") which is about 0.13" bigger than my wheel and tire combo. Combined with his more aggressive offset and overall lower front stance you're probably correct about the CMC. It must be super close.

    Do any of u guys know. If I got the same wheel +12 offset but in 18x9 with the nitto ridge grapplers would I need anything besides some minor plastic trimming in front. I have a trd pro with the stock suspension, think it's 2.5 lift all way around. Any help greatly appreciated have to make decision in couple hours.

    Not an expert on the subject, but by my math 295/70/18 is equal to approximately 34.26". That would put you at roughly 3/10 of an inch taller than me plus with an extra +8mm offset (that's another 3/10 of an inch wider) on the wheel you want over my +20 wheels on the TRD pro suspension, I'd assume that you'll end up rubbing the cab mount. It's gonna be extremely close. Hopefully someone running the set up you want will chime in ...

    It's crazy I can't find anyone who did what I'm looking to do. Am I that crazy. I just figured with fender flares about to go on, that will give it a nice aggressive look without being obnoxious. I've found people with same tires and vehicle with +18, it looks nice with wheel inside fender, I figured mine would either be even or just barely outside. Could I face any other issues than a chop do u think or that would be the most of my worries based on the other guys +18? Thanks again

    Well, I think a +12 offset would be just about flush with most flares and would look nice. If I were to purchase flares I'd actually go +1's because I'd like my tires to stick out a little bit outside the flares. CMC would be required though.

    You're gonna end up losing the flaps and moving front liner for sure and I think the CMC might be in your future.

    I think the flares sit out 1.25. Reason I say bc I know someone with stock pro has spidertrax 1.25 spacers and says his sits flush. If that's case then if I go +12 I should be little out right?

    Are you looking at the OEM style (smooth) fender flares? I know that the Bushwacker pocket style fender flares has 1.75 of coverage. I have 295/70/18 on 18 mm offset wheels (18x9) and my tires are just about even with pocket style fender flares.

    If you go with after-market wheels you do have to consider the wheel width also. Stock 60 mm offset wheel with 1.25 spacers will give you an effective offset of 28 mm. But since it's 1 inch narrower than a 9 inch wide wheel (the most popular after-market wheel width), the outer edge of the wheel will sit 1/2 inch toward the engine bay.

    I have sitting in my garage the oem pocket style color matched with rivets. I have yet to put on but know someone with and told me they push out 1.25. He also has stock wheels and tires with 1.25 spacers and says they are perfectly even. I think the 18x9 with +18 are just about even so I'm guessing the +12 will stick out perfect. I'm just not sure if I'm comfortable dealing with what comes with that.

    Have you measured your fender flares? My guess is that it will be thicker than 1.25. But I guess it's brand dependent (as far as I know, there is no Toyota oem flares with rivets).

    Every truck is different, but if your truck is anything like mine, you will rub the body mount with 12 mm offset (assuming you are looking at 295s). My tires are only few mm from the body mount.

    When I used my OEM wheels and 275/65/18 tires (32.07") with 1.25" Spydertrax spacers (which put me at about a +28mm offset) I cleared everything without issues.


    In my opinion if I had been using flares I would have still not been flush with pocket style flares.

    Knowing the set up you want to run (+12's and 295's = an extra 26mm/1" over your friend) with those rivet style flares I see you coming flush with them and you'll be happy with it. However you will more than likely rub on the cab mount. Do the CMC and I don't see you having any more issues with the set up you want.

    Here's a few pics of my current set up on +20mm with 295/60/20 so what your looking at getting would be wider and taller which I see causing issues with the mount. Your set up should look great for the flares though.

    I know nothing about the chop. How much it cost, where I can get it done. I guess I'm not comfortable bc I know nothing about it and look at it like I don't want to start cutting up my new truck. I'm beginning to rethink things and maybe go smaller to avoid cmc.

    I like look of yours do u have any lift? No issues with your setup. I tell ya at this point my head is spinning. Maybe I need to take step back and wait rethink.

    He says he comes even with the flares with stock everything and 1.25 spacers. I think a +18 would be flush with 295/70r18 and outside them +12. I do my main concern is I know nothing about cab mount chop and rather avoid.

    A CMC is just cutting off a little bit where it sticks out where your mudflap is and welding a plate over it. Usually costs about $100-200 to have done. If they do it properly, you won't even know it has been done. I would just call around and find someone who can do it. That will solve all your problems and you can get the wheels you want, with the tires you want, in the offset you want.

    I'm currently using the Toytec 3/1 TU3 spacer leveling kit. Again, my tire and wheel combo isn't as aggressive as the set up your thinking about getting. I ended up having to remove all my flaps up front and doing alittle bit of tweaking on the front liner but no CMC for clearance.

    If you do as what Joon and I are suggesting regarding the CMC you'll be able to run your desired set up and get the look your trying to achieve.

    So are you guys positive? If I paid to get cmc, I could put the 295/70r18 with a +12 offset?Could I then go with true 35's too? No other issues?

    Normally I'd say yes ... My only concern is since you want to stay on your factory TRD Pro lift, I don't know how that would impact your ability to fit 35's. The 295/70 +12 should be fine.
