Timing chain replaced...truck won't start!!!

    It's possible that the low number on 8 was from the cam being off the 20 deg you found. It may have opened the valve early before pressure maxxed. It might not hurt anything more if you set it right and tried running as is.

    I think I would put the chain, gears, and tensioner on and do a compression check before I put it all the way back together or tore it down more. See what the compression numbers are with it in time.

    Don't pull the head! If anything, you could snake a bore scope into the spark plug hole and look for dents (shiny metal dents at least) in the piston. 20 degrees doesn't seem like the end of the world, I think you'll be OK. I would do a compression check on 8 though after you have it all together.

    I would correct the timing and recheck the compression. At that point if it is ok, it is a win win. If not then do the head. Like I said a borescope would rule that out. You can buy one very cheap for your smart phone if you have one and they work great. You can even take pictures with it. Just my opinion.
