Timing belt replacement 'sticker'

When looking to purchasing a 1GT, what 'proof' do you look for to ensure they used an OEM part? My research suggest the OEM is the only acceptable replacement part.

I found this on a 1GT I looked at recently. Trying to educate myself.

Aisin is the oem manufacturer

I have both sticker on mine.

For what it's worth, that is the same exact sticker the dealership used when my timing belt was replaced a few years back.

 

I have the big blue square Aisin one.

 

That sticker comes in Toyota timing belt pkg.

 

The Aisin sticker is 'The sticker' I look for. If it is not one of those, may not be OEM. Of course, even if they did use Aisin, the sticker could have come off and they replaced it. You really want to see a receipt for the parts.

Also, other stickers can just be bought off eBay.

However (and this is just my PERSONAL opinion), even with an Aisin sticker, without a receipt showing a qualified shop doing the work, I'd always be wary. It's quite a long job and the DIY'er may not know exactly what they are doing or may cut corners as thet are running out of time and it's their daily driver.

 

Only a quick PSA or note to say: The presence of that sticker is not concrete evidence you're good-to-go with the timing belt. The sticker (or replicas) can be purchased online if you look in the right place. Not only that, but as Bubba shows above, someone can simply buy an OEM belt to get the sticker too, there's no guarantee they also replaced the tensioner, pulleys, water pump, etc. so potentially a partial job. Always loosen a timing cover to at least inspect for chafing/cracking/oil-staining/coolant-residuals/etc.

 

Pop the cover and put eyes on the belt. Fastest way to figure out how paranoid you should be. ...Also like shifty says, just cause there's a sticker doesn't mean any work was done. Similarly, just because work was done doesn't mean it was done right. And just a note, the actual belt that comes with the Aisin kit is a Mistuboshi, which I think is the OE supplier.
