After reading various threads and the current 25% sale, I'm going with OE rotors and Hawk LTS pads

Recently pad slapped some EBC Blues front and rear to replace the Bosch pads someone installed before i bought the truck. I ran yellows on a past truck and really liked them. Waiting to see if the blues are better or if i should have stuck with yellows again... The bite is great and only gets better the hotter they get.

As noted above though, there are always trade offs though. Much more dust and the blues are bit noisy occasionally right now. The yellows were never noisy but were just as dusty. I can deal with the dust, not a fan of the noise though. They do work great though!

I just put Akebono and Advic rotors on the front, put a few thousand miles on them , good so far...Before these I had EBC slotted rotors and EBC yellow pads..

I run cryo slotted rotors and ebc yellow. Mine squeak and are super dusty. I want to try a different pad soon. What does everyone recommend that is not as dusty and will work well with the slotted rotors? Something ceramic I assume.

When I do mine, I'll go with the non-AZ OEM pads and OEM rotors, etc... Since I don't have special needs, OEM works for me, plus I'm still under an extended warranty, so kinda need to stay OEM.

I am looking at doing my front brakes soon.

I see the Brembo Prime Pads are available locally on sale. Has anyone who has installed these pads have any long term feedback?

For those that say OEM are best, why? Have you compared them to a premium aftermarket pad like Brembo or Akebono? I am not opposed to OEM, but they are the most expensive option. So I will pay the price if they are good, but I'd like to know why so many think they are better?

Also, since OEM is made by Advics, does anyone know if the aftermarket Advics that have the built in shim have the same pads compound as the OEM Advics?

I replaced front and rear rotors and pads with Brembo a few thousand miles ago. They’ve been great so far.

Certainly there are better pads, but the question is better at what? You can get more initial bite and more stopping power but generally at the cost of eating the rotor faster and or more dust or more noise.

for general use the factory stuff is a pretty good balance.

If you haven't made up your mind yet, I'd go with OEM. That's what I have and after some TLC on the hubs and following the torque specs of 97 ft. Lbs. on the lug nuts, I am in gooood shape.
Like you I don't tow or haul much so OEM does fine for me.

I went with OEM. Ones from the factory worked flawlessly for 60k miles. Did front only, I'll do rears probably in the spring.

That's cool man. I love the idea of an upgraded braking system just because I like things to be overbuilt. But I can't justify the price. OEM brakes work, they stop the truck and slow it down when needed. So, that's what I'll stick with. And yes, I did fronts only too.

Same boat here, there are things to upgrade to your liking and some things to just keep the same, IMHO. I tow and have a camper, no complaints here on ability to stop.

Yep, I've done or have had done quite a bit of upgrades and mods. But the OEM brakes serve me just fine. Easy and simple to work on, rotor swap with new pads can be done in an hour. Don't have to get special pads either. Can get whatever I need at the local parts store.

Ok, in comparison to Akebono pads, in what way are OEM better? I can get Akebono pads for significantly cheaper than Toyota OEM and they come with hardware and shims unlike OEM. In what way are OEM pads better than Akenbono, or Brembo, or say aftermarket Advics?

Yes I went completely OEM upfront, only thing I reused was the shims. I have a set of oem pads and rotors to slap on the back too when I get some time.

OEM is going to be roughly the same as the pads you mentioned. Depending on the model, Toyota/Lexus pads are made by ADVICS, Akebono, and NBK. Maybe some other Japanese suppliers for the rebranded models (GR86, Yaris iA, etc). ADVICS includes Sumitomo as well. The one exception being the Akebono ASP pads, those are higher performance than the ACT (OEM) line, but I've never tried them. Got a BBK instead.

I've used Brembo prime pads and they were basically the exact same as the OEM pads in that application(German high performance car). However Brembo was one of the OEMs in that case.

If you are changing pads and rotors or having the rotors turned, all the options you mentioned will likely be indistinguishable from OEM.

I put the Z36 package on front and rear. Caliber pins on the right rear stuck ruining rotor and pads. Warranty covered it. They freed the caliper pins that they worked again. All good for 3 1/2 years. Then it happened again. This time I got OE put on.

Yep, I like the idea of aftermarket but the price of all of that for what advantage ? Nothing really. Not for me at least. I don't haul much or tow anything as of now and the OEM brakes just work for me.

I just put Frozen rotors on back in May and now I have to replace the front already. They are not completely smooth on the surface and i have some minor pulsation at certain speeds when I tap the brakes. I had some ball joint issues and that is possibly what led to the issue.

Any issue with running OEM pads on my cryo slotted rotors? Done dealing with EBC dust and squeaking.
