Thinking more about this tick...does anyone have any idea why it goes away in Neutral or Reverse and sounds different in Park vs. Drive? All of that points to transmission to me, but the dealer said "direct injection fuel pump" which sits on top of the transmission (hence location of the sound). Once the truck is in neutral, all you hear is the engine, which sounds totally normal. Park or drive, you get the tick sound every 3-4 second (in drive), little more consistent in park. Thoughts?

There was a TSB released in October of last year to reprogram the TCM on the Hybrid only for this tick. Supposedly it may resolve the tick for some time, but it has some back for some owners. There is a new Tech Tip out today that is worded in a way to make it seem like the TSB will ultimately not resolve the issue.

Thanks, I told my advisor about the TSB but he said it doesn’t apply to mine. I don’t have the hybrid. After looking into it more, I’ve noticed that:
    • Park - The tick is more pronounced and frequent.
    • Reverse - Nothing
    • Drive - 4-6 ticks with 2-3 second pauses
    • Neutral - Very faint tick similar to Park but lighter
Also noticed that in park, the tick goes away when you rev the engine but does return once RPMs settle. Advisor said “Normal operation with direct injection…”

    I’m still confused.

Things like this make me glad my hearing is shot due to too much gun play as a youngster.
    Also fireworks.
My easy fix: turn the radio up
