Yeah I know, that has been posted. Never had an issue as my RCI rack has been nothing but stellar. Dude probably monkey fisted the studs when he installed it. Then blames RCI.

It is good practice to routinely check your mounts. vibrations will cause things to loosen up over time.

Entirely possible that he "monkey fisted" them. Sounds so dirty. It's also possible that the welded studs can't handle continuous abuse from off-roading with a loaded rack. Could be that they worked themselves loose and it was metal fatigue that did them in. We don't know, but it did happen and it's not a bad thing for people to know about and consider when looking at racks.... this also sounds dirty.

I personally am just not a fan of the choice to use a stud welded plate vs a T-slot bolt and nut that pass through a plate that is all one piece up to the base of the rack. It seems like an added point of potential failure when compared to other racks like Voodoo or Cali Raised LED.

Good video, I’d never really thought much about the anchoring of the rack on the truck bed, I just figured the manufactures of the rack over-engineered it and took into account heavy abuse, guess that might not be the case.
Definitely a very informative thread thus far, thanks all.

Probably coming off as some RCI defender here but that is not the case, just going on my experience with what I have. My RCI rack has stood up to plenty of abuse, has never moved, and have never had an issue with it. All while carrying an almost 200lb tent, mountain bike, and permanently mounted awning. As far as I'm concerned it's over engineered. Obviously YMMV and things break and people have different opinions, this is mine.

It's good info to share, too. The guy in the vid does LOTS of off-road driving with lots of jolts and bounces and such, and likely puts more stress on his stuff in a month than most people will in a couple years of use. I've got RCI armor on my truck, and I love it. I know they make quality products.

    Good morning Everyone,

Thanks 50 Buck for posting the video. Like I mentioned RCI make great products, all my skids are RCI and I’m ordering their sliders as well.
This form is a great place for all of us to network and take in any information we can about whatever products we’re spending our hard earned cash on.

I recently purchased the Rhino Rack Vortex bars and quick mount set. Whole thing cost me $455 w/ shipping and taxes. I went this route because they're low off the sides, integrate with the t-slots on my Retrax, and I could get them quickly. And, they're super easy to slide and remove for quick storage. I think the max weight is 208 lbs, so certainly not heavy duty but serviceable for a Thule carrier and a couple of other things. I've been super happy with it.

nope, I haven’t bought anything yet, still researching and doing my homework.

I did buy some Total Chaos bed stiffeners already, and a Mountian Hatch for the tailgate.

Does anyone have any experience with, or own a Diamondback HD cover?

I recently started looking at those covers again as an option, since it can hold up to 1600lbs and started to do some comparing and contrasting between going with a hardcover, or a bedrack.

The diamondback HD can hold more weight that any bedracks I’ve found, also if you want you can run a RTT on it with the frontrunner cross bars.
If you were to get the HD cover and frontrunner rack it would cost a few hundred dollars more than say an RCI rack with adapters and a Tonneau Bak revolver cover.

I like the idea of being able to semi-confidently lock the rear of my truck and not wonder if my things will be missing when I come back to it. I also like the idea that you can load gear, cargo, RTT on top of the cover and still use the bed of the truck (similar to benefits of a rack and cover setup).

Anyone have any thoughts or personal experiences with any of this? Thanks

You can actually use the DiamondBack HD in conjunction with Max Modular bed racks. The ultimate setup.

This is all I could find at the moment, but I'm sure we have some pics of a Tundra:

All of our STEEL Max and ALUMAX racks will work with your truck and the Diamonback cover: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular

That said, if you want to be able to open your cover, we strongly recommend the Retrax XR with their integrated Trax Rail system. We make special brackets that allow our racks to mount directly to the cover: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular/retraxone-xr-brackets

I think I’m going to go the diamondback route with a rack on that at some point. Maybe use the front runner setup that Diamondback sells on their site, or maybe research a little more on the uptop overland rack, looks super nice, but I can’t find anything on the load rating(s).

Just installed a Diamondback HD cover. Shipping was excellent, fast, and everything showed up undamaged.

when I went to install the cover I noticed the cab panel has a spring loaded lock, whereas the tailgate panel does not.

Did anyone else notice this? Is this by design or did they forget to install the spring on my cover?

Mine is the same. Just on the cab panel.

Would the Voodoo rack work as a lumber rack that is cab height?

EDIT: Nvm, looks like the cover wouldnt be able to open. :(

Yeah I think only the low and mid height racks would allow the cover to still function.
