Sorry for the late reply. I want a rack that has supports resting along the length of the bed. I have not used the current rack with an RTT, but do use it to carry the largest Yakima Skybox and whatever else I strap up there. It has stood up well with out issues, but I want to change things up. I want the storage box features of the Leitner Design rack.

I use the rack in conjunction with a revolver X2. Initially I did not plan on camping, "overlanding" or even towing with the truck. Just haul family and gear around, Now I find my uses for the truck evolving, what I had on there for the past four years no longer fits my use.

Victory 4x4 Midheight rack with a Smittybuild Overlander XL Gen2. Rack is very high quality. Access to the bed is difficult with a mid height but i have pretty much no noticeable change in MPG since my tent barely sits above the cab compared to a tall rack. If you get a mid height rack a drawer system or something like bins organized with your gear make it a lot easier to use the bed.

CBI Overland bars! I have a set and absolutely love the way they carry weight. I have a thread on here about how I modified my tonneau to make it work. Worth a look for sure.IMG_0401[1].jpg

It is about 4 inches. There is a trade off. There are I think one or two other companies that make them and the vertical space is similar. I'll take a quick measurement once get home

I’ve checked out their site, and it’s not that intuitive, but they do seem sturdy.

My full length, full height, custom built over Softopper rack, with a Roofnest Falcon XL. Rhino Rack 270 awning. Tripple slides. A complete kitchen, with 14 gallons of pressurized hot and cold water. Plus a bunch of other goodies, all custom made.
For less than the cost of some of these “Erector Set” style racks you could possibly find a shop to build a custom rack. It just takes a little creativity. 5475C956-7ADA-4DD3-A3B9-37B228DFA4E7.jpg CE124B49-B80A-4FD6-811D-B4CB82B153B6.jpg

Absolutely badass buddy, got any pics of how the Softopper sits against the rack base? Any water ingress at all?

Certainly not trying to highjack dudes thread, but my point is that custom probably doesn't cost much, if any more. just takes some imagination. I get minimal water ingress in the corners, which is typical with Softoppers. look closely at the pics I posted and you can see how we recreated the rail that the snaps mount to. heres an additional picture. I have the 18inch victory 4x4 rack. I do like that i was still able to usey bed cover with it. I wish the rack was just a little bit taller to clear the cab. I can still fit my z125 into the bed of the truck and one of the reasons i went with the taller rack

I wonder if a bed slider would sit on my Decked box properly?
I like this setup and am thinking about getting the same bed cover.

Is there anyone who makes a rack similar to the Yakima outpost that can be adjusted from mid-height for a rtt, and then to the roofline for kayaks, hauling wood etc.

I just went with UPTOP myself. Full height bed rack and 7 bar Alpha EX rack mounted on top.

Went with UPTOP because of weight savings Aluminum, cool looks with ton of mounting points, good power coating, and the way it’s one piece mounting to factory deck rail system.
Was looking into RCI which are really cool but read a few negative reviews on their two piece mounting to the deck rail system possibly loosening up and tent and rack sliding forward damaging the rig.

Just option, they are many cool racks out there. RCI included.

Well, I am now considering a roof top tent. I would need a rack that will work with my TCUSA retractable cover. This rack would basically be cargo bars mounted to sliding towers on a rail system. Kim @ TCUSA told me they’re working with Yakima on a rail system that will be compatible with the Outpost HD and Overhaul, but for now, this is their compatibility chart.

I thought this might be useful info for those of us who want to keep our retractable covers but want to add a rack (or bars) capable of holding a RTT as well.

Fake news on RCI. Have never had an issue. An it is good practice to frequently check all aftermarket equipment for issues.
