Were the Gen 2 owners also calling the Gen 1 trucks dogs, while claiming the Gen 1 owners were the jerks?

I'm sure you guys have discussed the SC a lot on this forum. I have never even thought of adding one (yet) but will just say that if a conservative company like Toyota adds a Supercharger option that can be installed in the service dept, with warranty. That tells me this engine is simple mechanically speaking, and tuned really low for durability, reliability, and longevity. How much would Cylinder Deactivation change this ?

yeah stay away from that like the black plague.

you can find plenty of headache posts about the domestics and the issues that causes them long term.

gen 1 vs gen 2 vs gen 3 Raptor owners are all about being at one another over which Generation is better.

I also never called any one of you all jerks, you love your v8 Tundra's and that is good as you should since that is what you drive.

I get it but you are starting a thread within the Gen 3 forum to stir the pot with us Gen 3 owners. I doubt I would even been replying to this thread had it been in the other generation forum. So, now who is stirring the pot?

Am I crazy - or does it clearly show OP owns a 3rd gen? Do we just make up facts now?

I don’t care who goes in what threads (I surely did not start this one). But putting V8 in the thread title is as right of passage as it gets for a 2nd gen owner.

    yes, they were.

Ive been at this longer than most, owned 2 gen 1, 2 gen 2, and gen 3 and on truck boards since 2000 with my late 99 tundra 4.7.

you also forgot we were told our truck were 7/8 size of a "Real truck" and the engine had the displacement of a 6 cylinder at 4.7

    amoung other things...:burp:

weren't they called T100s at this point? I remember Toyota wanting to call it the T150 but Ford said NO, and threatened to sue.

no , that was prior to late 1999 and the introduction of the tundra as a 2000 model

They wanted to call it the T-150 but Ford bitched.

we had those in the family as well, they had a commercial out at the time that when the T-100 had the 3.4 v6 it was faster than the Ford F-150 V8, 0-60 even with 500lbs in the bed and the ford empty.

I've had many T100s--they were wonderful trucks that were very underrated and largely flew under the radar.

Can't imagine that we'll ever see a V8 back in a Toyota truck, unfortunate.

    100%

The chatter back then was the new tundra “2000” was a step back , soft suspension , not as capable or reliable

    sound familiar?

saving grace was the 4.7 rather than the 3.4, but that 3.4 had guts, I had them in t100 and tacos , way better than the 3.0 head gasket bs gutless one it replaced

I remember we all got the blue/red trd bilsteins at the time since they were 40% stiffer on the bump and like 25% on the rebound or something since the “new tundra” rode soft and was a “pavement queen “

funny how it’s just a continual deal of the same shit lol

Umm, 5.2L SC'd Raptor R? Toyota doesn't have to make V8s, but someone will.

V8s in trucks and sports cars aren't going away anytime soon, not until consumers don't want them anymore. The 14 year old version of myself never dreamed of the day I could get a new turbo 6er full size pickup, and neither does the 54 year old version of me that can afford whatever he wants. And there are too many of me out there for the market to ignore.

Ok I guess I was just thinking about the normal trucks not 100k raptors with chargers on smaller V8s

gm 6.2 is it, yota 350 gone, hemi 350 gone, ford 6.2 gone, ford 5.0 meh

I would much rather have my boosted 3.4 than the ford 5.0 just to have a V8.

gm 6.2 was nice when i tested but the seats and truck were lacking AT 4 rode like shit , trans was crap compared to the aisin 10

Hey if it serves your needs/wants that's great. But for guys like me, if reliable V8s disappear from half-tons, I'll be off to the HD market debating a V8 gasser vs Diesel.

I would have liked to see Toyota split the difference on the pressure ratio and displacement with a smaller boosted V8. A new fully forged 4.3L-4.6L V8 for example running 5-6psi but with all of the technology with port angles, high speed combustion processes, materials and cooling systems found in the V6. V8s are inherently smoother than V6s, and it would sound the part for truck use with a lower stress pressure ratio than a v6 on 10-15psi, but be fully capable of handling a lot more boost for monkeying around with down the road. Would have been cool to see them try something with the 5.0 2UR-GSE. Not ever happening obviously, Toyota doesn’t do too many interesting things lately.

isn’t that already here? Gm has lifter problems, everything else is gone, or are you likely the ford 5.0? Nissan v8 is gone too

Seems that Toyota could buy more of BMW’s B58 inline 6 and stick that in the Tundra like they do the Supra.
The base B58 is 375 HP and they easily squeeze 425 out of it, plus it has a mild hybrid 48V system that’s helps get things moving before the turbo(s) kick in. That would great for towing.

Would be an improvement I guess, it’s basically what Ram did with the Hurricane. The 2JZ never exactly sounded incredible though IMO, what can I say I just like that 8 cylinder sound with my performance. The Jaguar F type V6 sounds pretty unique, but that’s also for a car. It’s just different in that application.
