And folks this is why there are no tow hooks. Flap appears to be very flimsy as well!

Since you’re not being towed out of an area at 30mph the dam wouldn’t deploy…might be able to use them after all if there’s enough ground clearance.

    Improves aero by 5% deployed.

When towing, if it remained deployed, it would increase drag by 26%.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of the motor for the air dam?

flimsy seems like a good thing in this case, less likely to rip off when hitting road debris (looks like it will flex)

I don't care either way about the air dam. If it fell off tomorrow, I wouldn't know one way or the other (aside from the dash light). That said, the highways around me (KC, particularly i435) are always littered with road hazards. You could build an entire car with the parts laying on the side of the road. I have had to swerve to miss bumpers, headlights, ladders, furniture, large tire chunks, etc. It wouldn't take too long to smoke something on the road in heavy traffic because you didn't have time, or space, to get out of the way. I have also hit my share of raccoons and possums at night in rural America. You can't miss those things if they dart out of a ditch while you are doing 70 mph down the highway. It just happens, and I personally would prefer if it didn't turn on a dash light if the thing gets broken.

    None. Just bought.
I’d like to see a simple switch that would prevent the air dam from deploying. You could be in snow doing around 40 mph and hit a piece of hidden ice or something. A disable switch would be great.

I propose making the stop start disable button multipurpose and have it also disable the damn dam.

WOW, I would leave it down all the time and put little lights and yellow caution tape on it. Anything to draw the eyes away from the embarrassing grill is a plus.

Not a bad idea - who's going to be the 1st one to put "googly eyes" on their air dam?

I got this garbage can on I-17 a couple of weeks ago (no escape route). Pretty sure I would have been pulling that air dam out from underneath the truck, along with the garbage can.

Reminds me of the time when my truck was just 3 days old, and I "ran over" a loose contractor type trash bag just blowing in my travel lane on NJ Turnpike.
Went underneath the truck...and didn't re-appear. 5 secs later the whole truck is vibrating so badly I thought it was going to explode.
Luckily I was able to pull over quickly.

The damn bag wrapped itself around the rear drive shaft and U-join so damn tightly that I had to grab a knife (thankfully had one in the truck), and spend a good 5 mins on the ground trying to shred it all to pieces to get it off.

Scared the crap outta me, but thankfully no damage to anything.

It has no gas mileage savings per Mike Sweers. It is only there to help stabilize at higher speeds. The Pro, SR and SR5 with off-road pkg does not have it but limited with off-road does. Also if unplugged and a an aftermarket bumper is put on you have to do a work around to avoid a constant warning on the dash MID. I hate this stupid thing. Nothing like the 3rd gen tacoma's with them which you could just remove. This thing along with start/stop and electronic parking brake are the 3 most hated things about my 2022 Tundra.

I'm pretty sure he said it makes it 5% more aerodynamic deployed (not towing)...which would mean it would increase fuel efficiency.

My understanding is that the Limited hybrid also does not have the active spoiler, I think it might be possible that any trim (Limited and higher) with the iForce Max might have the spoiler deleted. My build details on the dealer website shows "Without front spoiler" under the details. I'm picking it up on Saturday, I will confirm.

read the sentence just below what your circled in that it hurts fuel economy.

While towing, which is why it is disabled when you plug into the harness in the back.

ok :) yall can have it. Even watching him talk about it during the press release there was no mention of any fuel economy numbers actually increasing. Enjoy your air dams :)

I am not advocating for or against it. But, objectively, if it makes the truck 5% more aerodynamic, as the article says, then it would be more fuel efficient. Thats how physics works. Less drag = more efficiency. You are cherry picking a part of the article to support your narrative.

It doesn't increase fuel efficiency in any noticeable way for the consumer, it's there to increase the CAFE numbers which are not reported to us. Manufacturers will go to great lengths to get 0.1 mpg increases in their CAFE numbers to keep the government happy. Totally unrelated to the EPA figures we see advertised.

Did you read your comment and read what I circled?

You didnt mention towing. I'm well aware of the 26% drag while towing, i have brought it up many times here as a possible hack to keep the dam tucked in.

I suggested this in a different thread.

You'll need to create a mini circuit as simply plugging in a dummy doesnt work. Should be easy enough.

I have a Limited hybrid with TRD off road pkg. I can confirm that there is no active spoiler under my truck.
