Than why are you here? This thread was started to show how a piece of technology works on the new gen.

Go back to where you belong. Your baseless opinions are of no value here.

    THEN why am I here?
Where exactly do I belong dearest Christopher?

    My opinion isn't baseless.
It's based upon these 'new gen' 2022 Tundras are ugly and plagued with issues, there are MULTIPLE threads on these problems.
So I would not choose to purchase one..

Please go back and quote everyone in this thread that stated something negative about your beloved 2022.
    Don't single me out.
I'll check in later and see if you did your homework.

If you'd just ignore me, I'd probably just go away.
But y'all keep quoting me and I'll keep commenting.
    See how that works?

Chevy, Ford etc. all have those air dams. Theirs is just fixed all the time. At least the Tundra's retract at low speeds.

Your opinion means jack squat to those of us who own one but I’m sure you feel great now that you’ve shared it.

on the 2016 tacoma we had, it was about 1 mpg drop (highway) after removing it. the tacoma had a static air dam. i think 90% of the people removed it cause it looked wrong.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
If I recall the front air dam is designed with a break away feature if it hits something. Not as in fall off the truck, bust just fold back without damage.

Neither here nor there, but all I can think of, is a 6" lift, and getting an aftermarket kit, so the retracting air dam is about a foot deep, takes about 30 seconds to roll out!

Seriously, though, wonder if it's like the sunroof dam, and if you're staying at about 40, it'll pop in and out a lot? First month I owned my Tundra, I thought something was coming loose up there!

It goes out at 37 and retracts at 25 mph. So if you’re driving 25 exactly, it may retract but once it’s retracted it won’t deploy until you hit the higher speed again. It’s on page 398 of the manual.

My 95 Ford and 97 GM both had them. The 17 GM van i use at work has one too and the previous 06 ford van also.

I think it's a significant difference in aerodynamics, i would leave it. A lot of cars now have grille shutters to improve efficiency. The only air dam i ever damaged was on a 02 GM. I snagged the corner of it in a parking lot, but the tundra one only works at high speeds so... Seems kinda silly to make up some arbitrary scenario where you run over a recap on the highway to justify removing the air dam, but whatever it's y'all trucks. Do what you want and dont complain about the mpg.

Stupid air dam just remove it. Head over to the Tacoma forum and ask how many owners have air dams sitting in their garages collecting dust.

Smart. Cutoff this well engineered piece of your truck that helps fuel economy when fuel prices are increasing just to avoid a less then 1% chance of running into something. I'll remove it for free and all its components for you just to install it on my truck. Not including on the cheap seat SR.

Yup. It'll fold back if it hit something when deployed. Probably still some damage marks obviously, but will probably not rip off your bumper at least.
