Agree on AZ or the west coast. I'm in AZ and have never had rust on a car. Dust....yes! Rust? No.

It also matters how the truck is stored in the summer months, if stored outdoors especially on the grass the moisture will adhere to the bottom of the vehicle every morning then dry and will rust everything rapidly.

I’d say pass but you do live in an area that’s going to destroy vehicles if not taken care of.
You could always move to Texas.

I received a call yesterday from the dealer where I looked at my first Tundra. The sales lady told me they just took in a 2014 Tundra 5.7 4x4 with only 50k miles in on trade. She said the truck was going through the service department to be inspected and asked if I was interested. I said sure, but not even an hour later she calls me back and says, "Service looked at the truck, and its going to auction. The frame is rusty and not safe". It was over before it even started.

While it doesn't affect you if this truck was truly unsafe it wouldn't be going to auction and they would be working with Toyota to get it fixed. Instead now its going to auction where some small used car dealer will buy it, prob barely covering the big dealership costs, and then they are going to throw it on their lot and sell this "unsafe" truck to some poor schmuck.

Must be from an area where they salt the roads. That's a hard pass for me. Working on it would be a nightmare!

I'll chime in after the laugh I just had from @rt_tundra_co tundraco post:D Seriously speaking as mentioned above. It's surface rust that can be low pressure blasted or wire brushed. you got a RW Tundra with only 65K on it, Hell that engine ain't even broke in , and it's a 1 owner truck. Just my.02. Good luck:thumbsup:

You can pick up some clean rust free trucks down here in the South too. This is a "road salt" issue in the Rust Belt states.

The 2014 that dealership has looks like a nice option.

I think I would avoid that dealer. Is it a new car dealer? Every time I've traded in a vehicle they have inspected it before any deal is done. Maybe doing things over the internet has changed but why would a dealer take the chance of buying a sight unseen vehicle hoping they can sell it for a profit? I would think that any good dealer must have a database on where each brand/ model weaknesses are.
