We had a break in the weather today and the roads dried up a bit. I still haven’t found the stones to mat the accelerator. Chicken shit I know but I’m thinking I would at least like to enjoy the SC for a full 24 hours before ending up in the ditch.

Feels really smooth and strong and I guess the ECM is still learning so I’m very pleased. Initial runs yesterday and earlier today I was experiencing a weird slowing during an acceleration. I would be in 2nd with maybe 50% throttle quick..the rpms would rise then taper off for and bit and then increase again. I could replicate it almost at will. My plan was to wait until next week as Kevin is schedule to go back in anyway for other mods. Well, I remembered watching Obsessed Garage on YouTube and the guy’s ending has his Porsche GT3 reving in the background and he says something like “what happens is when the force pulls you back your foot naturally comes off the gas..you have to keep your foot to the floor...”. I thought maybe that is what is happening to me. Bingo! I concentrated on keeping my foot solid and sure enough, smooth and strong all the way to the next gear. I hope to mat it 100% tomorrow. If you don’t hear from me, send help. :)

I could stare at this for hours.

im in the same boat. the SC does not match the drivetrain and up and down shifts erratically.

my last 2 TRD S/C 2nd gen tacoma's were hands down the best all the way around and reliable as a rock.

That's dry weight. if you have the 38 gallon tank with the 5.7, thats nearly 300 pounds of fuel + your weight on the scales would add nearly 500lbs to dry curb weight.

i have about 300 extra pounds on mine which tips it over 6300.

Partial throttle problems like that is 100% the tune + combination of a boost pressure sensor. it looks like you have the FFV kit. sensor with wiring going to a fuel relay that is attached a prong. Use your BD GT to check if you are pulling back your throttle with the TPS gauge. Im not sure thats what's happening.

I don’t have the problem when I think about my pressure. It was all me. I will do some test runs tomorrow and report back.

Did 4 or 5 mini runs. Say 20 -70 or 90 (once). Pulls and shifts smooth. Still feel like the throttle is very sensitive as at times when driving “normally” I accidentally get on it harder than I want and then lift and then back on and that is when I get the hesitation....but again, that is me. It’s just much more sensitive than stock.

I did manage to achieve a CEL. Lol. P0101 MAF. Kevin seems unaffected as I feel nothing different. I cleared the code but it came back on after a 20 minute drive to the store. Sent a message to my service manager and they are going to take a look on my Wed service appointment. I’ll keep you posted.

@signalbobby, Thanks for for the real world feedback. My buddy as mentioned won’t be adding a S/C to his 19 Pro for your stated reasons. For the $$$$, Toyota should know better if they are installing S/C, it should be as slick as butter, or at least consider the “stock”transmission into the equation. My flicker flame of desire for a S/C installed on my Tundra has been estinguished.

That said I hope it all comes together for you @4Runner, you have laid out the cash and it needs to be beyond perfect!

I wouldn’t change a thing @Patriot. Rides great. Have to think the CEL is minor as it has affected nothing that I can tell. Just feels strong and smooth. Check that. I wish the SC was about 1/2 of what I paid. $4k seems more reasonable. Water under the bridge now. I’ll report in as I get more seat time.

I do agree, this mod is not for everyone since they retired the TRD solution.

Throttle overly sensitive? Are you running the bullydog tuner? If so try stock throttle response, guessing it's set to performance.

I’ll check it but I think I’m in stock....

CEL cleared yesterday and still holding. The cleaned the sensor on the MAF. Might have picked up something from the new oily air filter coupled with the extra air.

Did 2more runs in the 75% to 50% throttle in second through 3rd. All good. I’ll post another update next week.

Shifting still solid. Love the power and then sound.

CEL - came back on Friday, cleared it and was good until today. Cleared it again and been good ever since. Based on the intervals varying, I'm thinking the sensor is picking up some oil from the new filter. Again, runs good as new regardless of the CEL on or off. I'll post more as we work through it.

Shift - yep, it's on performance throttle....guess this explains I feel no difference when hitting Tow Haul mode. I'm a chicken on the BD making changes but worked up enough courage to look at my settings. I noticed my shifting is "stock" and want to change it to "performance" but the BD wouldn't let me continue without a battery charger hooked up. I backed out. Will try again later.

Update: Kevin still throwing the P0101 MAF code although running just fine. Both my tech and Magnuson suspect the air filter, so I have changed out the supplied K&N this afternoon with a reusable AFE. I also have an OEM filter (2013) arriving tomorrow just in case as that is what Magnuson suggested. Yes, 2013 as the OEM filter is larger than the 2014 plus and that fits the air box that came with the Magnuson kit.

Still love the SC. Loads of power and the whine is very nice. I find myself running more and more with the radio off. Seriously reconsidering my audio upgrade that I had planned for next year.

    Stay tuned.

Was that filter they put in oiled? I see that sometimes when people oil their own filter. They throw a MAF code because the thing gets soaked in oil. Screws the sensor up. Makes it read all stupid. I run a non oiled K&N filter on my C.A.I. works great!!

The K&N filter came with the Magnuson SC kit and it was oiled. Will see how the new dry filter goes. Hopefully this solves the CEL.

Happy to report that after switching to an aFe filter (dry, high flow) on Friday, 3/16, Kevin has been codeless. Longest I went prior to the switch was 2 days. For whatever the reason, Kevin didn’t like the K&N filter. Next up is create additional “tune presets” just for fun. Not having a Windows PC in the house, I’m going to work with my dealer to create the B and C presets on the BD.

Check your alcohol %. I had an issue where this started climbing. It is actually a known issue at Toyota and they have a TSB out there for it. Your alcohol % should be around 14% or lower. Mine is running around 17-19% due to the winter fuel mix we have in Michigan. It goes down when we switch over to the summer blend. When I was setting the MAF code my alcohol % was around 45%. It was a complete false reading. If you search all my posts you will come across it on here or TT. I cant remember where I posted it at.

This has set the MAF code in my truck. Once we did the Alcohol reset procedure at the dealer, the problem went away.

If you have any issues or questions regarding SCing your FFV feel free to ask. I was one of the first 2 or 3 people to do this when we only had Unichip to rely on for the tune. Later we adopted the Bully Dog Tune. but I SCed my FFV back in 2015.

I have a 2014 with factory installed TRD Supercharger. 45,000 miles on it. No issues. However strongly recommend getting the DAP tune (you have to go do it in person, they wont remote tune SC). I see lots of guys blowing their engines or trannys with the SC and you never see a 200K mile tundra with SC so that should tell you realistically you should expect for lifetime of an SC’d tundra. Also woikd expect to replace tranny at some point if you constantly hot rod it. That said, religiously maintaining the truck is absolute key to longevity. SC only calls for its coolant flushed and changed at 100K; many of us guys with SCs in the forums eill recommend doing it every 30K - 50K just as extra preventative maintenance

Thanks for the info. Love the power and the best part is I don’t have really get on it to feel and use it. Yea, nothing crazy so I do not expect longevity issues and certainly don’t expect a tranny issue before 200k miles. My service advisor agrees. I will definitely perform maintenance and do what is necessary to prevent “big” issues. My team is on it. Interested in learning more about DAP tune but since it isn’t available for my truck and the remote issue...may not be an option for me. Thanks again for the post. Would be nice to have a dedicated SC forum to share info.

Update: my CEL P0101 has apparently been solved. We swapped out MAF sensor for a new one. I’m running a OEM air filter for a 2013 now too but will switch back to my AFe dry filter this weekend. I’ll report back on this but not SC related as everything was within tolerance even with the CEL on.

Shifting - after 2,000 miles under my belt I do have a slight blip/hesitation at a certain throttle position and a certain rpm range. Under normal or heavy acceleration it isn’t there but I’m able to find the sweet spot now. I’ve contacted Magnuson and they are escalating this as we believe this isn’t specific to my truck. This is no big deal and wouldn’t prevent me from doing another SC or recommending the SC to any of you. I just wanted to report back to you about this. It’s very minor and I’d say you have to have the throttle within a 5% range of the sweet spot to replicate. Again, not a big deal for me.

    I’ll keep the community posted.
