Just ditched my 2016 Silverado 1500 for a Tundra. So happy I did. The Tundra doesn’t have all the gadgets. But, what good are gadgets if your truck is in the shop for weeks at a time.
The Tundra drives and feels like a truck. You’ll be happy you made the move!

Issues I've witnessed with GM products you'd be better off with any other brand. I've seen GM techs, supervisors, managers, GM REPS, you name it unable to diagnose torque converting issues on a 60K premium luxury vehicle. The issue is still on-going maybe the 9th trip back in the stealership they'll have a solution?

No regrets. I shopped and researched for 3 years. Not an impulsive buyer. Almost bought a tundra in 2017 but decided to hold off for led headlamps since I’ve got terrible night vision. Took two more years to pull the trigger. Really tried to stick with Chevy as that’s been the truck of choice in my family for generations. Unfortunately the GM of today isn’t building the trucks that won my grandfathers loyalty. Seems to me they’ve got accountants and lawyers designing vehicles. Too much done in the name of fuel efficiency and “whiz bang features” at the expense of long term durability/dependability. If I was buying a new truck every 3 years I would be looking hard at Chevy and ram. They’re nice.......on the lot. Since it’s got to last, the tundra was the clear winner no matter how I looked at it.

I have a 17 Silverado crew cab. I’m a Toyota guy. My daily driver is a 2000 Landcruiser, wife had a Highlander, bought daughter a Prius.
I am on a Silverado board. They don’t seem to have any more complaints or problems than I see on these boards.
I agree Toyota makes a more reliable vehicle. But I think Chevy makes a better overall truck.
I have had no issues with mine. I initially planned to buy a Tundra but could not find one I thought was reasonably priced with the miles and options I wanted.
What is killing me is I have a great Silverado. Heck of a nice truck, but I still want a Tundra.
I found a 17 pro in my area for a decent price. But it is bare bones. Rubber steering wheel, no heated seats or steering wheel, no power mirrors, no car play, no climate control, no rear under the seat storage space, no bed lighting. The vehicle has 30k miles and they still want $40k for it. Then they offer me $34k for my Silverado with only 20k miles and all the additional options I listed that the Tundra doesn’t have.
I think I am going to end up waiting a few years for the new redesign to come out and the go for the Tundra

Must be your right foot. I have same truck and similar commute. I will average low 17s with fairly normal traffic. Normal traffic is typical mpg killing jams. Without them high 17s to 18 is normal. Also I run about 50 psi. If I don't tpms comes on with temps in low 30s

I had a 2010 Silverado. When I traded it for my 2014 Tundra the Silverado had been in the shop to repair a door that leaked water 12 times, the transmission was starting to go, and it used 3 quarts of oil between changes. It only had 75k miles and all maintenance was done by the dealer. I haven't had an issue with the Tundra at 100K. The only thing better about the Silverado was the ride. It rides really nice. The gas mileage is about the same if you actually calculate it and don't believe the computer, which was always wrong on the Silverado. Just my experience.

The new GM trucks are not what they used to be .I have a good friend who just bought a new 4 door Denali and has to have a wheel bearing replaced and it only has 37,000 miles. If you like reliability and low maintenance then get the tundra my work truck is a 2000 tundra access cab TRD with 387,000 miles that I bought new and I drive it everyday. My Tundra drove very soft before I switched out my shocks to Bilsteins. I have a limited and its not a TRD package, not sure if that would have changed anything. I wouldn't knock the Tundra on this though, this is the way they sell 1/2 ton trucks these days.

I love chevys as well but the big 3 have been left in the dust in the reliability department and if your going to pay well over 40k for vehicle it can be a lot of things but what you shouldn’t have to worry about is reliability . And they are very reliable! And if you get one level it with the Bilstein 5100’s , check them out .

Mine came with the factory bilstein shocks but I think I’ll wait till they are worn out and go with the 5100’s .

I really don’t get on the gas all that often. I was running about 49 but have since lowered to around 44 to try and get a better ride and I have not seen much of a difference in mileage. The computer will occasionally tell me I’m averaging 17.5 - 18.5 on certain trips but the manual fill up calculation has never been above 15 mpg

My computer readings are always within a tenth or 2. You can make the computer reading look real good if you reset after getting up to highway speed. I usually reset mine when I fill up. Sometimes I wait a couple of fill ups. A few things that kill the mileage on these trucks is idling, hills, speed (hurt Tacoma badly too), etc.. I also reset after towing my 22' Bay Champ. Don't need 10s dropping the average.

well the computer average is what it is so I honestly don’t pay much attention to that. But real world when I calculate how much actual gas I have used from last fill up and the actual miles driven I am getting like 14.9 most of the time. A couple time I have gotten in the low 15’s but I have never seen 17+ even on an all highway trip and a truly don’t get hard in the gas often at all. Suspension is still stock as well so IDK what I can do differently.

In my opinion, the Silverado will ride better without a doubt. I’ve had 3 GM trucks and they all rode better than my Tundra (even before I changed tires and lifted). I put a trailer on my Tundra when I first got it and the rear end started bouncing on certain parts of the highway. Same trailer with my previous Silverado and it was fine.

if I had to do it again I still would’ve gotten the Tundra but the Pro version. If Chevy made a better looking truck when I bought my Tundra I may have went that direction but IMO the current silverado body style is fugly. Tundra more reliable?...maybe I think I’ve had 2 or 3 recalls so far. The starter in the Silverado is put in a logical place not inside the damn engine like the Tundra...just sayin.

Put an OME lift on it and it will definitely ride like a truck.

The 2500 rides rough in a different kind of way. The Tundra bounces and oscillates...you can tell the frame isn’t as rigid. I came from a 2013 Chevy 2500HD and I prefer the rigid stiff feel not the bendy feel. Tundras better in other ways but I still miss my Duramax.

The best truck is the one that's paid off. If the issues with your 2500 do not impact reliability, keep her going for as long as you can. Also, be sure to take a long hard look at offerings from Ford and RAM.
That said, nothing will be as reliable as a Tundra.

Been a Chevy guy all my life and I had 2 Chevys with gas engines ('96 & '03) both go over 300k mi and were good trucks, but my last 2 ('06 & '13) were crap. Decided I liked reliability over creature comforts and the fact that the Chevy stealership couldn't figure out why my mpg was only 13 on the highway at 70mph. Took it in several times and they had no answer, plus they were very snobby and hard to deal with. On the last visit I walked out, drove next door to the Toyota dealership and never looked back. That was 2014 and I couldn't be happier with my "paid for" Tundra.

I guess I was comparing it to the Big 3 1/2 ton offerings with air rides etc. I’ve ridden in a couple. THEY ride more like a Cadillac.
I drive a 5500 Dodge at work. That thing drive like shit. So, yes, I’ve driven trucks that ride like shit and I don’t think of the Tundra like a “Cadillac”. Especially on concrete highways. Compared to that Ford of yours, I bet the ride of the Tundra is much better.

I just went and drove a tundra yesterday.. my opinion: it rides a whole lot closer to a cadillac than a truck.. thats not a bad thing, just not what in used to..

In my area, when I was shopping new I was able to get a better deal on a Tundra than Chevy or Ford was willing to offer.

Also I didnt want a CrewCab, I wanted a double cab with the extra bed space. The Chevy equivalent was freaking tiny and not enough to cut it..

I have enough friends with Fords to know that their reliability is absolute shit.

I've never owned a Chevy truck but I had a 2015 Corvette and was happy with it.

If longevity and quality is what you want in a truck, then nothing can beat the Tundra and Tacoma...I drove the snot out of my 2005 Tacoma (pulled an 18-foot camper all over the Colorado mountains) and the only issue I ever had was the overhead gauge that showed the outside temperature went out...that's it. I traded it in for a Tundra because we upgraded our 18-foot trailer for a 32-footer so needed the V-8. I was disappointed that the Crew Cab is much longer than the Tacoma in that it won't fit on my garage. My mileage also went from around 24 mpg with the Taco to around 17 but I knew that...she only gets around 10 when pulling the camper up/down the mountain passes and the small 26 gallon tank goes down way too quick. (2015+ Tundras have the larger tank) As my favorite mechanic says, "GM vehicles are okay when new but if you plan on keeping them longer than 3 years, buy something else."

I bought my '07 Tundra used very recently. I did notice the truck has a very large feeling when driving it and I'm used to driving full sized trucks. It's also very wide with the mirrors in normal position. I got very close to tearing one mirror off when I pulled into my garage the first time. I've been able to drive the other trucks I've owned into my garage very comfortably. Not this truck. I haven't tried driving the Excursion that I inherited last year into my garage yet. That might be interesting to compare.
As far as ownership, I try to keep any vehicle at least 10 years, even bought used unless something gives up to where it costs too much to justify. I had such an experience with a Honda Civic but that's for another forum.
