I found a crewmax in my area for $18k but unsure if the surface corrosion and wear matches a 38k mile one owner truck. I’ve read this gen suffers more rust issues than newer years.

Do the following pictures show typical aging or wear for this truck?

It also has a spacer front level kit which I believe would have to be removed.

Plus I would buy stock wheels with AT tires.

Where is the truck from? Is it a Texas truck or shipped out from the rust belt?

It is a 13 year old truck, but it does seem a little excessive.

South Texas and according to the CARFAX always serviced in south Texas. Here is an engine picture.

I would pass. It's like it was a beach cruiser that never was rinsed off after.

Take a hammer & tap the rust. That will tell you how bad it is.

Looks good to me. Unlike fellows from areas with 0% humidity, I'm more worried about the suspension mods I saw.

I would tap all the heavily rusted areas with a hammer as well. Seems like just surface that could be cleaned up with a wire wheel. But the hammer will give you all the answers you need to know. For that price and mileage I would consider it. I would also get rid of the suspension mods and wheels. Like @ColoradoTJ said it was likely a beach truck which would make the rust seem normal even if the mileage is that low. But that doesn't mean it's a shit truck. Just might need a little tlc.

I have seen a lot worse I was going to say but put my glasses on and looked again. The bubbles in the bed would make me say run away. I am glad he didn't have a liner in it to hide that. I am surprised the bottom side of the truck isn't worse.

I’m going to recheck that. It was drizzling that day and thought it was water.

Should the tie down loops at the rear be oem painted or bare metal?

They come painted. But if they are used a lot the metal hooks from ratchet straps can wear them out. Nothing to worry about in my book. It's a throw away part in the whole scheme of things.

That looks fairly beat up for those miles.
